Hi
A message for all ex race horse owners :) Just wondering how old your horses are and what they are doing now? How long did the training take in race horse to riding horse? I think we must have a few Ex racer fans as there are a few TB threads on here tonight :D
Im off to see one tomorrow at a racing yard in Bath, I thought I would go direct to the trainers.
Tell me all about your gorgeous TB's!!!

My exracer is 9yrs old and currently pregnant! seems to be her favorite of all the disciplines we have tried with her :P she was ridden for a year and a half by me before going into foal.

I've got two - Rebel King and Blue Acre. Rebel is 20 years old and does a bit of dressage and hacking, but his main past time is eating. I thought he would lose weight coming into winter - he is getting fatter and fatter - I think he is going to explode soon!
Blue Acre has been very ill. She has come home after two months in hospital and is recovering at the moment. She is 8 years old and will hopefully also do some dressage and hacking, and if I am brave, maybe a bit of jumping. The first photo is Rebel and the second one is Blue taken only six days after I got her from a racing yard which is why she is thin!

good luck lover! let me know how you get on!! :-D
have you told p+g they will soon be getting a new field mate :D

Hey hun, P has been warned but Jo is having him now he's ready to slow down a bit...bless him! Gilbert is totally unaware..hehehe.
This horse is older than what I'm after but he sounds like a right stud..very flashy apparently :D But i would have him on a free lease as they dont want to sell him as he's one of their favourites, but I'm happy with that :) But may not happen...seen a few and try not to get too excited now.
Hows Prince the ex racer doing ;)

ahh thatl be nice for p. gilly will have abit of a shock then!
prince is super! hes not liking this weather so is looking forward to coming in the end of the week! hes had the week off though while my foot heals! but hes coming back into work 2moro rain or snow!! think hes enjoying being a field bum!

Alfie is 7, measured him today at 17.1hh which was bigger than I thought! We've had him since June and he was racing until then. He has been cubbing, went bloodhounding this weekend for the first time, he's just got onto the riding club xc teams and is about to affiliate show jumping. His flat work is improving but he is a long way from doing a decent test - mainly as he finds working in such a small arena difficult - those corners just come up too soon!. His jumping was the biggest problem to start with as he would just jump/run through them and he was very on his forehand and would set his neck but bitting sorted out and grids etc, he has come on leaps and bounds literally!

We went to try a couple today and are seeing two more tomorrow so hopefully will have another one by the weekend and it'll start all over again :D

Forgot to mention the two retirees - one is 25 and one 29. They just rule the roost generally and spend their days looking handsome and spoiled rotten.

You pretty much know how long it's taken me ;)

J had basic schooling in place when I got him and it took me 3 months to get him good enough to be placed BD and jumping came as the flatwork did. J was v straightforward though and he had only raced once.

Red was 8 and had done just racing when we got him. It took my mum a couple of months to get him working in an outline, he was a bit nappy hacking alone at first but
quickly got better. It took 6 months before he was placed BD and 6 months to jump a small course without being spooky at fillers. He was fine xc though pretty much straight away (having been a chaser).

Vay my grey was a bit trickier, she had not been brought up in a nice racing yard. She had raced, hacked and hunted when I got her. It took me 3 months of hacking before I could school her and then when I started schooling her I had to be v v careful not to push her or she would panic. She was ready to go to her first show and unaff dressage 6 months after I got her. She did her first showjumping show 9 months after I got her. I had to take her slow but once she understood she was amazing, never stopped at jumps ect.

Hope that helps! Good luck!!! Xxx

ALICE I just love JT...your pics and videos have partly inspired me to get a TB/ex racer....I have a bit of the green eyed monster when it comes to you guys lol he is my idea of heaven...your a very lucky girly ;)
Cant wait to see you at Holly's xxx

Rebelzmum, im usually just a lurker but just had to say that I used to work with Blue Acre and she was such a sweetie :). I'm sorry she was poorly and home she gets better soon, but it's so lovely to hear that she ended up in a good home.

we train point to pointer so have had quite q few who dont make the mark who go on to other things. Here at the moment we have mouse who i hunt (gorgeous) and yogi who is amous in the royal welsh and other shows for her inter-hunt efforts. Neither needed re-training as they were taught all the basics of flatwork and jumping to be able to run and jump in their races properly.

yea...starting liverpool cream this winter now flies have gone....its massive and right where his blimmin girth goes!!! that sarc ex has helped the others tho, they have shrivelled right up :) Its annoying as otherwise he's a perfectly healthy 5 yr old just sat in the field :( x

sarc ex is fab, H uses it for one on bobs eye and it has reduced in size. smelly stuff isnt it!! hopefully youl find one 2moro then! failing that take grace off my hands haha!! iv had enough of her mucking about lol! shes off to janes for boot camp!!

Awww thanks!!! I'm so glad we've inspired you! Find a good'un because they can be SO wonderful. J was a right scrawny thing when I got him but I loved his cheeky face right away. Make sure you pick one that you really really like straight away :). It's not always easy bringing them on but it's rewarding and so worth it:)
Oooo so excited for you!
I can't wait to see you Xxx
