Does anyone actually use exercise sheets or am I just being soft?!

I'm also thinking of getting a waterproof ride-on saddle cover - I've just forked out for a new saddle after my tack was stolen and hate the thought of it getting sodden if I lunge in the rain!

Nb. I don't actually have more money than sense...

I hardly ever use my exercise sheet - only if it's peeing down or absolutely freezing. My horse is clipped out but tbh she warms up pretty quicky and overheats under an exercise sheet.

Why not get a cheap roller off ebay for lunging in?

I use an exercise sheet if its very chilly, or its very murky (hi vis exercise sheet).

I was considering buying a saddle cover myself, but think it would get wet underneath anyway so I'm just going to oil my saddle a lot this year to keep it protected. I've just bought some flexalan which has a sponge applicator attached - very exciting

I don't seem like a loser at all do I?!

Excersize sheets are great worth their weight in gold for clipped horses on cold and or windy days, as long as you can make sure the stay put with a good fillet string.

I use an exercise sheet every time i ride from the first clip of the season to about April.

My horse hates the cold he has to be clipped because he sweats up a lot but then he feels the cold and goes very tense though his back. I warm up with the Rambo fleece exercise rug then tack it off for the rest of his schooling session.

I have various types of exercise sheets from ride-on, wrap-around, wtaerproof and hi viz. My horse is 28 going on 29 and grows next to no winter coat so they are invaluable to me.

From now on right through winter I will probably hardly ride without one, but in all fairness I don't work him 'hard' at his age so he doesn't warm up really well.

Sometimes when its REALLY cold he'll have his rambo whitney stripe fleece ride on under his saddle to keep him warm then his WB Landa waterproof wrap around on top to stop the wind chill or rain!!

Yes, he is spoilt!!

But if you can't spoil a horse at his age when can you?!?

I tend to ride straight after lungeing so like to do it in my saddle rather than confuse her by returning to the stable to "change"!

Even though I'm not getting Orla clipped (she doesn't sweat too much - either through fitness or lack of any hard work, ha ha!) I think I may get a waterproof hi-vis sheet - killing 2 birds and all that!

I bought one earlier this year. It goes over your own legs too and velcros up at the pommel. Havent used it yet as it hasnt been cold enough. Last year my horse was a little cold backed and the weather was a lot colder than it has been this year though. My horse has a blanket clip so at the mo she is doing ok.

My TB would be mortified if he went out on a cold morning's road walk without his wool sheet on.

On the other hand my old cob, overheats quickly if he's over rugged, so I'd never use an exercise sheet on him unless it was raining and had to keep his back dry.

Different types of horse have different needs.

i have 2 hi viz (one mesh and one lined) so I always use one out hacking
I use my fleece one if its freezing cold for warming up/cooling down when schooling and waterproof one for warming up if raining (i have too many exercise sheets and im soft

!!)

I do use them and have a big variety of sheets. Waterproof, woollen, fleece and thermatex!! and as he has kindly grown back his first clip none of the above at the moment... I am using the bad weather as an excuse NOT to clip just now!
