Exeter horse sales

:D Having contemplated pulling a sickie, the irony of waking up with the cold from hell wasnt lost on me ;)

he was lot 90 - anyone know how he did??? and the 18hh tb that was sold after him??

Thats typical isn't it!!
I didn't see them go as left early today. Didn't actually see another horse near the 18hh TB maybe he wasn't brought forward. The TB had awful scarring on his hinds - looked like wet bandaging type scars but looked nice sort

Sounds like there was a biggish variety.. Must say that Arab stallion looks loovely! Looking forward to going next month (hopefully), is there any sort of online sale report? Does it tell you of all the horses and what they sold for?

Also; at this sale are there often TB's/ex racer types? :)

Racergirl - I went to the sales, I didn't see what Cauliflower went for but I was stroking him and was scratching his withers, he was very fluffy and lovely.

No there isn't a list of horses with prices unfortunatly. They normally do a few line report saying what the best price was for etc but nothing very specific.

I've not seen anything sold as an ex racer but I've seen a few nice TBs go through - some poor ones too. There was a nice grey 4yo tb last month. I think the sales list normally goes online about a week before the sale plus more on the day

That is a pity they don't do anything more specific, would help me think about prices etc.

Looking forward to my trips up now, or though I fear I may come home with a few to many!! Like the sound of the grey 4 YO, hmmm:(

Hi there, forgot to look at this thread for a while, yes you can normally see some of them trotted up and ridden although every time i see one of the ones i am interested in being ridden its :eek::eek:. Especially one with the lady dealer who seems to quite like to ride them but is bloody hopeless! Honestly! Considering she prob considers herself a professional....
lol I can honestly say every horse I have seen ridden I have then mentally rejected immediatley but I guess thats what its there for. By the way, the little grey and the connemara I bought from Exeter are fantastic now..... now that we have sorted out all their confidence issues poor things, and both have a home for life..... so a good ending for those two! :)

As Im known for wanting to give my animals "unusual" names (dont know why people think they are unusual - I think they are perfectly acceptible!!) Im biting back the urge to pull a sickie tomorrow and go buy Cauliflower.....

The lovely "Cauiflower" I fell in love with him, he looked like a little teddy bear! He sold for £70 I think, and if anyone was at the auctions I was the mad bint who clapped when he sold to somone on the steps, hope he found a nice home.

I was shocked!! at how many people and horses were there, some nice horses too.
Was dissapointed at one lot that went through, 2yr old filly and a 3/4 mnth old foal!!!! comes to somthing whe a Dealer asks how could that be possiable!!!!! Auctioneer just said they was being sold together!!! ( i don't think the foal even belonged to the filly, even though they were alike!)
One 3 yr old cob, who had no life in him what so ever! I think he was either very ill, but I suspect it had been doped as his willy was flopping out!..

The Arab stallion was nice, if you like that kind of thing lol....

Thanks guys:) not great on my locations! Thanks for link, will look. Prices generally cheaper there?

Basically I'm looking for something 3/4 years old, who may need some love, tlc and grass (i have too much!) but something I can break in and create a future for. Think there are lots of possible horses at these sales and they are all deserving! :)

Spot-the-Risk.... was very cheep there yesterday, and some very dodgy dealings which were so obvious!...there don't seem to have been many foals upon the moors this year, so if there are fewer, maybe they will fetch a better price, but that will just fuel more breeding, hopefully some trials are going to be launched, something along the line of putting the mares on the pill.. I think.

Not seriously the one that HC is advertising for £400 surely??!!!! and the welsh A and foal, take it she got them there Tuesday too????

Yes! mare and foal too, intrestingly the mare was 2 yrs old and the foal 4mnts!!!! :-(
Cauiliflower is only about 4 mnts. I too hope they find nice homes.

I thought it was a big price hike when I saw the ads on facebook but on the plus side (IMO)at least these guys didn't go to the meat man.

The person who bought them from the sales will have paid buyers fees, transport, is paying livery, feeding, time on them etc and has hopefully wormed all of which costs money.

Update on the little cob Cauliflower, and the section A and filly foal, spoke to the girl who bought them, and she said that she only bought them to save them going to the meatman!!
even though she advertised them less than 24hrs later for a very high profit!!. She is now advertising them very cheep or swap for rugs!!! and the little cob is ill and looseing weight.
Although, as well meaning as she ment to be, these poor little mites still have an uncertain future. :-(
Question???
should she have left well alone?
or has she just prolonged their misery?

That's sad to hear. But if you havnt got the knowledge or the funds then dont buy. Just because you can buy a foal for less then a hamster doesn't mean it's going to be cheaper to keep.:(

What's wrong with the cob? There's always that risk you'll pick something up at the sales with god no's what wrong with it, i hope she finds out or finds him a good home..
