'Explosive' Barking for no bloomin reason .... gggrrrr (help)

My JRT has a very very annoying habit, which can occur any time of the day or night.

I live in a quiet country lane and my house backs on to the lane. If anyone so much as walks up the lane with or without dogs - my JRT goes NUTS!! She cant see them as the garden is on the other side of the house, but she literally errupts.

Another trigger would be next door neighbours keys jangling as the go to get into their car, a car pulling in to let another past - anything.

She hears the faintest noise and just goes loopy, then she goes quiet again.

It is literally doing my nut in as it's soooo over the top.

Any advice please, other than removing her squeeker

We have a very yappy female and we tried the following

-banging pots and pans to shock her out of it (nothing)
(you could also try a rattle bottle, dropping keys on the floor)

-squirting her in the face with water (nothing)

-battery operated zap collar (nothing)

-calmer (don't really know!)

What does work is saying 'No' or 'stop' in a long, low-pitched, firm but CALM voice. My mother was making the problem worse by saying 'BELLAWILLYOUSTOPITNOW!QUIET!THAT'SENOUGH' - she was being as high pitched and hysterical as the bitch was, they were just mirroring each other's behaviour.

- After telling her 'No'. Taking her swiftly and calmly away from the situation, no talking, no fuss, either into a crate or
into our exercise pen, where she cannot see 'triggers' (cats, my mother, people!). A crate with a rug thrown over it at first, so it is dark and calming, time out for a period of time, then out again.

If you are in the house, could you put her on the lead, when she starts barking, check her with a swift pull on the collar and a 'no', when she stops barking, reward her with a treat or praise or ball, whatever she goes for.
Gradually take the lead away and see if she listens to the initial 'no'.
