Extemer wind......

Arhhh, I just opened my front door to find next doors 'SOLD' sign flying across in front of my face! Nothing quite like a WTF moment to bring you to your senses!!
AND, in the grand scheme of things, it isn't 'that' bad down here!

I thought we were surviving quite well, with just a minimal amount of damage, until the roof shattered on my American barn. It's not raining, which is just as well, because the horses will be sleeping under the stars.

block of three wooden stable roofs off near us , hope horses was not in ! not been up long either ! calmed down a bit now , hope alls ok .

Relatively calm in South Wales - judging by my view from the office in a Cardiff Bay that's nomally VERY windy at the best of times, there's a fair bit of wind but nothing like some of you have seen. Stay safe and warm people.

Went up to the horses at 1.30 pm to check how they were getting on to find the stables had blown away and landed on next doors fence! So scary, thank fully the horses were out and unharmed. I am devastated we had just put in solar lights and they are completely wrecked :(

Have to admit I never thought I'd hear that all Scottish train services were cancelled due to trampolines on the lines, but that was the gist of this morning's announcement :D

(OK, they did mention branches and leaves as well...).

I don't know how, but the tack room cladding ceiling collapsed on us this afternoon. How the wind made it do that, I don't know. Also all the house guttering is down.

its not too bad now in co durham! it was horrendous earlier... theres a big tree come down in our field!
I got sick of watching my wheelie bin make a bid for freedom haha :)

was terrible here.

roof of my boys stable was blown right off and a wall collapsed, friend phoned me to tell me but he and his neighbor were both fine. went up to find his stable full of bricks and debris and neighbor horses stable has a plank from the roof hanging down. the roof of the stables ended up in the winter field with the live out horses! both were so so so lucky to be completely unharmed as were the horses in the field!

window of my bedroom was also burst open by the wind in the early hours of this morning and had to get someone out to fix it, nightmarish day!

Yes, thankfully. I hope it wasn't an omen as I was just handing over the cash for my new filly. It was very scary, but the cladding is relatively light so not as bad as it could have been!

Don't believe in bad omens so I wouldn't worry about that, lol. Glad all are ok.

We are quite used to delays due to cows/sheep on the lines (yes, true story) but trampolines are a bit more exciting.

I stand corrected! Have just had a Standby Emergency Status Plan alert through from Social Services stating that East Kent are creating rest centres for vulnerable people to go to should they be evacuated due to flooding where they can be looked after by trained staff.

Think I'm ok in West Kent but hoping my offices and clients in the East will be ok!

Current Position

Two Severe Weather Advisory Group conferences were held today, with a decision to put in place County-wide Strategic and Tactical Command and Control arrangements from tomorrow morning. Command and Control arrangements will be in place throughout the event.
Flood and evacuation planning will be put in place from tomorrow morning.
The Environment Agency has notified 13,500 people identified in the high risk areas in order to prepare and/or evacuate.
We anticipate 3 Rest Centre responses at this stage: Medway, Seasalter, Whitstable and Pegwell Bay, Ramsgate.

Just dying down now here in Warwickshire, and the only damage is one of the old large black poplars at the bottom of the garden which has been topped by half, poor thing. the good side is that'll be our firewood for next winter sorted!

Our fence blew down about 9.00am, meaning that there is nothing between the yard and the big horses' field and the dogs can only go out on their leads. Fortunately we had already decided to leave the horses in as the youngsters' field is very exposed. I could hardly get across the yard to give them all some haylage. Then I met some friends for lunch in Halifax and genuinely thought I was going to be blown over as I walked across the Broad Street Plaza, the tables and chairs outside the cafes and the big Christmas tree had all be blown down - very scary!
Back home and there is a slate off the house roof, the field vac has been blown into the top gate, the cover has blown off the straw, despite sister and I re-covering it before she went to work this morning, and there are wheelie bins and rubbish blowing around all over the place. Fortunately the wind seems to be dropping from 'gale force' to 'windy'. We have had snow, sleet and hail this afternoon.

here comes the flooding :(
http://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/story/2013-12-05/flood-warnings/#storm-pictures-north-east_295727

there are a few trees down up here (south northumberland) , next doors roof is quite badly damaged and a few windows were broken last night
god knows were my wheelie bin is , but horse thankfully seems ok apart from a few small tiles of the roof although he stayed in today as i didn't trust the fence to stay put , he's also fully clipped and can't cope without a rug and i really didin't want to risk the rug going over his head today

hope everyone stays save tonight and has plenty sand bags

We had a blustery day too. Horses stayed on the yard's road planings turnout area, where they can hide behind the block of stables and eat their haynets. I shut the top doors to try and make sure that the roof stayed on!

Next door's all singing all dancing patio furniture flew over their 5' stone wall into the field next door. We just caught my dad's shed roof as it was about to go and put some dry stone wall stones on the roof to keep it on. Haven't noticed any other damage so far. I had my hair cut and it was gorgeous for all of one minute - by the time I'd walked to my car it was soaked and all over the place!

It was snowing here this afternoon too. Hopefully the ground was far too wet for it to stick. I'm off to San Francisco for work tomorrow and want to finish my Xmas shopping - don't want to get snowed in.

Very sorry for those of you that have had damage and lost stables. Good luck to those in the firing line tonight.

Hope everyone is ok this morning.

To give some hope to those who've had stables blow down, the only reason ours haven't in recent years is that they did blow down in the 90s and they were dragged back into place, fixed up and securely bolted down. I think we lost the field shelter roof twice before we put vents in the back wall as well as the floor bolts!

but understand Scotland and the North are having it worse?

It's ALWAYS worse up here in Scotland ;) Annoyed me that Radio 4 this morning was talking about how you guys were preparing for high winds / tides but then nothing happened this morning, no mention at all of our horrendous winds yesterday. With snow it was a white out at times too. Trees down across roads (huge one came down in my mums garden!) etc. and the coastal roads and villages flooded. Roads this morning are a joke, little bit of snow covering sheet ice - so so dangerous, within 1/2 mile of me there's currently next doors car in the ditch and a police car sorting out another which has rolled onto a crash barrier. Oh and my power was out for 12 hours yesterday (no heating either and its -3). But hey, us Scots are expected to deal with this with no fuss ;)

I'm afraid that as soon as the weather warnings moved down South, you guys were old news, even though you were still in the thick of it. It must really rankle with you.
