This evening I got a call from a neighbour, saying a foal was up the mountain, wandering around by the road. I went to meet him at the spot,he had been feeding it for a couple of days. She is only about six/seven months, hugely underweight, quite weak, has a cough and a very damaged eye (I suspect that she will probably lose it.) Another neighbour brought the box over and we managed to get her loaded and a headcollar on, (she's very head shy...eye injury?). We now have her installed in the yard with my three, which is dodgy because of the cough, but what can you do!? I certainly cannot afford to take on a foal and have contacted a local horse rescue. I knew things were bad, (I live in Southern Ireland) but I thought that was mostly in the thuoroughbred side of things. This foal is going to grow into a nice heavy type, hairy legs, good natured etc. I wish I could keep her, but I'm being sensible. It makes me sick that someone couldn't be arsed to do the right thing!
