Re-took the test this morning, still having had no lessons.
Passed it with ease.
After the test I explained to the examiner about my first test and he also thought it was ridiculous that the first examiner failed me. He said that they have been told to be relatively relaxed about the criteria and he would not have failed me for stopping 2 inches to early for the reversing exercise, and that there is actually no limit as to the number of times you can get out or shunt forward.
However, if you do get out or shunt forwards too many times they have to ask the question (so to speak) as to what you are doing so wrong that you had to do that. It's the bits you were doing wrong to cause you to get out or shunt forwards that they should mark you down for. They advise only to get out once and shunt forward a maximum of twice, only if you really must!
I didn't shunt forwards once or get out once today!!
We also had a chat about me becoming a driving instructor and training people for the B+E in the future, thinks I'd make a good instructor. Happy days!
