I have a new livery coming and they have asked for straw to be added to the livery costs each month when the horse is stabled, what do you think would be a fair price?
For small bales well packed we pay £2 a bale delivered and stacked for us (option of wheat, barley or oat straw) - at old livery yard it was something like £15 per big bale. Are they large or small bales? Something like £5 a week I would see as fair (I use a bale every 3 days assuming horse is in at night
We used to get if free then some people took the micky and were using far more than they needed because it was free ! Now we pay per £1.50 a bale and the farmer just adds this to the cost of our livery each month so we all get a fair deal.
I pay £2.50 a bale and use 2 bales per week i think £5 a week is an acceptable cost so long as they're not going to go overboard and use LOADS of straw (like i used to when it was inc in my livery... teehee!!)
