I have a new livery coming and they have asked for straw to be added to the livery costs each month when the horse is stabled, what do you think would be a fair price?

For small bales well packed we pay £2 a bale delivered and stacked for us (option of wheat, barley or oat straw) - at old livery yard it was something like £15 per big bale. Are they large or small bales? Something like £5 a week I would see as fair (I use a bale every 3 days assuming horse is in at night :)

We used to get if free then some people took the micky and were using far more than they needed because it was free ! Now we pay per £1.50 a bale and the farmer just adds this to the cost of our livery each month so we all get a fair deal.

At our old yard we either got 1 bag of shavings or 2 bales of straw per week, and this was included in the bill.

If we needed to buy extra shavings, they were £6.70. Not sure how much the straw was (poss £2.50 a bale?)

So I would say £5 a week is a reasonalble price :)

I pay £2.50 a bale and use 2 bales per week i think £5 a week is an acceptable cost so long as they're not going to go overboard and use LOADS of straw (like i used to when it was inc in my livery... teehee!!)
