Hi,
I'm new on here, but have a show coming up with my daughter who is on lead rein and wanted to do fancy dress any good ideas for a little girl and a roan pony??
Was thinking maybe flower and fairy? princes and ... she is girly so prob find she will want to go that way but any new ideas would be fab as i would like to do something different.

Cheers :)

Depends if you want to win, or just have fun taking part! Having done loads of fancy dress and also had to judge, the flowers/princess and fairy ideas get done a lot, so is unlikely to get highly placed.

But at 4 its the taking part that counts (in theory) so go with what she would like to be and take lots of photos :)

However... if you want to be highly competitive, try to think of something unusual or even better, something topical, and include the pony. Now if you had a boy, that could be England world cup theme, however don't think that would work for a little girl so will have a think about that. How about angel on horseback - you can buy some glittery wings from Claire's Accessories, and a halo, or make it all and get extra points from judge if your daughter has helped make part of the costume.

One note of caution - the judging is very subjective and random in fancy dress - at one show the judge went for homemade costumes and child's input over the flash shop bought ones, yet at another show, the judge went for the most impressive, despite it being entirely bought.

Good luck and post a pic on here after!

This was what my little girl wore when she was 3, I am out of shot, but dressed as a ladybird :o

we used greengrocer's stuff for the grass (bought on ebay), and you can buy flowers, bees and butterflies cheaply at craft shops.

Thats gorgeous Itsme123!

My friend's daughter once went a fairy princess, and we put pink glitter on the grey horse and made a unicorn horn for the pony...

Another good one is a "well schooled pony" - put a rug on and tie rulers, pencils, books etc on the rug - perhaps a tie around the neck, and dress the child as a teacher - gown, cane and graduate hat....

Have fun!

they are all ace got a few weeks yet love the shetland pic.
Got a strawberry roan mare so could turn her in to a strawberry and daughter in to a fairy as thats what she wants to be.

Naughty children only wanting to go with the norm lol
Could dress her as a worm and she could ride mine would not need to dress him up as always covered in mud he he he. :)

When I was tiny my mum dressed me up as a 'wallflower' - with a sheet over the horse that was done like a wall and then me in a green leotard and a huge yellow flower headdress going round my riding hat. I think it was pretty simple to make but we won :-)

When monkeybum was little we did harry potter (pony) and hermione (mb) and Prof Mcgonagle (me). As a teenager myself and a guy did adam and eve (in drag ie I was Adam he was Eve) and then had to do scurry jumping in our fancydress (cars on adjacent motorway stopped to watch!) I have a piccy somewhere

When I was 4 I did fancy dress (and I got a rosette 4th I think in a big class) I went as lady godiva. It was dead easy costume wise, I have very very long hair and did then too. My mum bought a cheap hair piece to add too. Then a wore what was essentially a flesh coloured all in one. It was actually a pair of very thick tan tights that my mum customised! I have photos somewhere but I'm not sharing. :p

The winners were dressed as a circus act, rider in leotard and tutu, horse with a feathered plume and glitzy quarter sheet, leader dressed as a ring master - very professional.

There was also a gypsy (little boy coloured pony, home made caravan, boy and leader dressed as old fashioned gyspys). A Galloping Gourmet (gives you an idea of how old I am!) she dressed as a chef on horseback. And a clown.

How American is that! Please don't let us turn into that in our fancy dress shows! Yes they are amazing, but its a parent's class, not a child's. The kids looked bored stiff. It reminded me of an american beauty padgent with over competative mothers who never quite made it themselves putting make up on their kids. This looked like horsey parents who couldn't win anything else, so decide to go down the fancy dress class pot hunting route!

No offence to you Blond1.x

without sounding big headed, as a child I won loads of fancy dress. oh the 80's were good!

Had a black shetland who pulled a little cart - 'coal delivery' - very coal dusty!
Then we transformed into 'Loggers' and pulled a log on chains -great, but we scattered the other ponies!!
Realising this, we ditched the 'pulling theme' and went ZEBRA CROSSING - we painted white wash in stripes over the pony and me and my bro rode bare back together carrying stripey poles with an orange balloon. No health and sfety stopped us, - we didn't even wear hard hats! Totally home made, still got a fab trophy when we won a big class somewhere.

Then my daughter has won a fancy dress - 'dolly mixture', odd roan appy pony, slung a barbie style duvet over her, pinned dolly mixture sweets to it and added some of her dolls to the sadlle. hung sweets from ponies mane, and tied ribbon (kids style) in her tail - the judges loved it!!
Its great fun, but oh so can be competitive!!!

We used to do quite a bit of Fancy dress when we were younger, the most memorable one was a Disney theme.

and another time we went as 'The Dogs Dinner.' I only have a picture of the pony for that one but if I remember rightly my sister and I were dressed up as a bride and groom with a large dog as the best man :o

I went as a native indian with feathers and face paint and a brown home made dress thing, pony was dressed up too but can't remember how no! it was about 1990! The winner of the class, i will always remember, was a tennis player with her pony dressed as a tennis court! Green rug, lots of tennis balls attached and a miniature net across his back, and the girl led him dressed in tennis gear with a racket. It looked brilliant!
