Fancy new products don’t always work!!

Quite tempted to eat my words and try an Equitex now...

I am to.. I always said they were over priced foam pads. I felt one at a show and was a bit under whelmed by it. They’re thinner than I expected and can’t see they’d absorb a lot?
But a few friends have them and swear by them. One has a mare with kissing spines (medicated) and since using a Equitex she’s gone from working hollow to an outline.

There's nothing new about different brushes for different coats, what's new is putting an £80+ price tag on a bundle of them. Brilliant marketing.
.
Maybe nothing new but I don't see many brushes saying this is good for X or Y beyond this is s body or dandy brush.

If you look at GS saddlery, the description of the Haas brushes is similar for a lot of them and you wouldn't really know which to pick and there are a lot that look and sound the same

I now know which I'd buy individually but only after using them.

They're not cheap individually either. I had a look at GS saddlery and a couple of the ones I use a lot are £18/£19 each, the others aren't much less.

I hope we haven't reached the stage where we now need brush consultants..

.
At least something I won't need! With my hairy brown ponies that spend 4 months a year growing their winter coat, 3 months in full winter coat and 4 months losing their winter coat, I use a dandy brush all year round (and have even been known to use a wire brush on the top of his rump in winter to give him a good scratch which gets his top lip quivering and a happy look on his face - the only thing that gets through all the layers!)

Maybe not but I would have saved lots of money on buying useless brushes if there had been a bit more of a description than dandy or body brush. You said yourself that there's always been different brushes for different coats but I can't see much info about which.

Had a clear out recently after mice got into a drawer and threw out a load of brushes ranging from the expensive ones which were gifts through the mid range Ostler ones to the cheap and cheerful Bentley kit I bought to get started when I came back to horse owning after a break.

The Haas pack may have been expensive but they all get used.

On another subject where it can be worth paying more. Sheepskin Saddlecloths or Half Pads. Cheaper ones are made up of smaller pieces which you can't tell as they have a cotton backing on top. That can create an edge where they are sewn together and irritate a sensitive horse. The good quality ones made of a single piece cost a lot of money.

Borrow one and see if your horse can tell any difference. That would be my advice for any new bit of kit you think might be worth investing in. Or buy second hand, at a sensible price, and can generally sell on at same price if doesnt add any benefit.

Starting a thread about unecessary products and then using it to defend different brushes for different coloured horses might be the best definition of irony I have ever seen!

I keep thinking about the bay horses I've had of almost identical colour, ranging from a feathered cob with a winter coat like a yak who you could groom with a pitchfork and he wouldn't care, to my current one who would be pretty handy with his teeth if you scrubbed him with a dandy brush.

Absolutely this all day long!!
And treble check when you are buying

To be fair to Equitex they have commissioned reasonably independent testing and the pad does come out of it well. I don't think I could ever bring myself to pay the price, though, without understanding what goes inside it that justifies that eye watering sum.

The thing is ycbm, from my first reply defending Equitex, we had a specific problem being unable to find a saddle to fit a pony who is like a small thoroughbred. Whatever we tried or whatever adjustments we made or whatever riser pads, numnah we tried nothing stopped the saddle or any other saddle we tried moving up and down as my granddaughter rode.
Equitex came to the rescue and is brilliant.
I am probably in a better position than many to risk the money as what I spend on my family now won’t be there as inheritance later!
We are totally sold on the brilliance of these now .

Just had a look on FleaBay and those equitex pads are still going for over £100 2nd hand, 😮 I am quite sceptical about saddle pads that have great claims but if they work for you then that's great.

I got some Haas brushes as a present, but I don't use them much.

Yes they may not work miracles but there are certain brushes that work much better on different coat types (colours) for example the lipizanner on greys because the coconut fibres get rid of the stains. So it’s not nonsense ☺️

I'm embarrassed for them. I hope they are being paid well for it by this "Lipizanner" brand.

Though I will say I LOVE my groomi, lol.

I had a look at the Equitex but it puts me off when I see pictures of ill fitting saddles on a manufacturer's website.
This is how they showcase their 320 quids saddle pad :

ETA: here is the link for those who want to check I am not making it up: https://equitex.it/Dressage-saddle-pads-Equitex
The picture appears when the mouse hovers over the grey pad

I don’t why you care what other people use. The equine world is full of money and people who will spend it all on their horse. I say you’re a bit of green eyed monster . To be honest it’s going to get worse as horses are getting more expensive. I say in 40 years it will be rich man sport you probably won’t have normal people in the sport in the future as nobody will be able to afford it. Look at horse prices for example they aren’t going down there still very expensive and I say they probably star going up so will livery.

I don’t care! This was a thread for discussion thst people have taken offence to fir some reason!

I am a convert to riding tights...I don't ride anymore and I would never wear them on their own but they are fabulous under waterproof over trousers for a day's beating! So much less bulky than normal trousers and I can bend my dodgy knees in the whole set up!
Love riding tights!

You are a new poster, I don't know how old you are but you sound pretty young, your writing style and responses are quite aggressive and what you think is funny doesn't seem to come over that way to most people. You start a thread about new products that don't work, and then utterly fail to see the irony of you toting ..... new products that don't work. I hope this helps :)

I didn’t mean any harm!!

Didn’t mean any harm! People have just taken offence! I want to get this thread deleted or might just create a new account as it seems I’m now the most hated person on here!

Please stop the histrionics, this is just normal for threads on the forum, they take on a life of their own. Nobody hates you, nobody has taken offence, you are just being gently mocked for a bit of naivety. You can't delete threads. You sound very young, how old are you?

Don't flatter yourself, there are loads of people we hate LOTS; you we don't know well enough to even mildly dislike (yet). Welcome to the forum 😊
