Fancy new products don’t always work!!

on the topic of haas brushes - the lippizaner is actually in pretty much every set they offer. i really rate them, but i don’t use the “correct” ones. i got a grey pack 2nd hand (unused), and they work great still. what i will say, is that the new version of the Lippizaner works far better than the old one!

i bought the lippizaner and the fellglanzburste for lily and they’re brill, and got the grey pack for diva. i certainly wouldn’t buy the full sets for retail price! i value my haas brushes just as highly as my slip not bentley flick brush🤣

My poor horses are very hard done by.

They get matchy matchy to the degree that it matches either their saddle or their coat colour.

If they are very lucky, they get to wear white when doing dressage.

ETA, they do get nice Mattes things though, like fluffy half pads and the correction pads and what not.
All my stuff is matchy matchy. I own two plain brown numnahs - they match the saddle, bridle, girth and, in Wiggy's case, the horse ;) . I have two white saddlecloths, one with my riding club logo for qualifiers and one plain for other dressage.

The only really newfangled thing I have are Sprenger stirrups - they've made a big difference to my knee pain when I'm riding.

You sound like me most of the horse stuff is brown as it matches all my tack and I use the nuumed wool shim numnahs so you don't have much choice and mine are ancient now.

Mine get a le mieux head collar and that's it 😆

When I said skimpy-skimpy in my original post, I was referring to the riding tights :-) Sorry if I have confused everyone!
I was on the look out for a decent pair of brown breeches or jods (to go with my Exmoor Brown colour scheme that I use for everything) which preferably did not have a sticky bottom and did have one of those useful pockets on your thigh.
and, despite 100's to choose from, I couldn't find anything that fitted the bill.

Having just spent a weekend on camp at Somerford and visited the shop they have on site, I found very little there I wanted to buy! It was stuffed with matchy-matchy, blingy-blingy, skimpy-skimpy muchy-costy stuff ;-)
I did buy my now third generation pair of ariat yard boots, so didn't quite resist the temptation :)
I succumbed to a light waterproof coat, as my Barbour is boiling unless it's absolutely freezing.

OP why oh why did you start this expensive (for me) thread.
I now have a new shopping list, with an Equitex pad and Hass brushes at the top of it.
Clearly I am a marketeers dream!!!

I resisted a saddle pad, after all the saddler is booked in to visit in a few weeks.
No way could I justify a Haas brush. If F is going to a special party he gets washed when he’s filthy.
I am in the process of going down the rabbit hole of stirrups so watch this space.

On that note please always check with your fitter when buying pads, girths or even martingales (anything that might contribute to the saddle slipping forwards), unless you're buying the same as you're already using.

👍 My saddler is the instigator of all my pad buying, and is responsible for me owing two second hand equitex half pads (she's not a retailer either)

I had a look at the Equitex but it puts me off when I see pictures of ill fitting saddles on a manufacturer's website.
This is how they showcase their 320 quids saddle pad :

ETA: here is the link for those who want to check I am not making it up: https://equitex.it/Dressage-saddle-pads-Equitex
The picture appears when the mouse hovers over the grey pad
I looked at these pads at Windsor I have to say they are very nicely made but sadly or fortunately they are too thick for under Skys saddle .

My fitter made me chuck all the fancy expensive pads I had and made me get a very boring, simple one. I was not impressed, but she said that a lot of them actually work against a correctly fitting saddle and ruin the fit. She was right much to my disappointment 😂

Saddle fitter came last week. Existing saddle is a big No.
Back into previous saddle to work out saddle slip as pony is uneven on scapula area.
Now shimming, under instruction, to correct balance as pony is too old probably to be even again.
Previous saddle not 100% comfortable for me but we have to start somewhere.

I was shown an Equitex pad. It was beautiful. I was petrified I’d drop it on the wet ground. £200 give or take! but so soft.

Just thought this was interesting and want to here your thoughts…
Nowadays most riders are all using the new technology based tack and using gear they are given because they are sponsored but think about it… people promote these new innovative stirrups etc but actually they don’t make you ride any better! They’re there for the ‘look’
Charlotte Dujardin won gold in London 2012 using a pair on normal steel stirrup irons! And it goes for other things too for example these new fancy saddlepads thst cost a fortune! She used a normal white saddlecloth on Valegro at london 2012! He still won!
Just proves we’re all brainwashed into thinking that the new products work and that we all need them. I know I’m sticking to my old school stuff!!

The GB team did use the new dangled fairfax girths and said they helped
