Fantastic opportunity to get to Rockley

The one that caused a stir? lol Yes, so fascinating. It's so scary how much we *think* we know about horses but if we stop and listen to them they say something completely different and run off happy as Larry! :D

Just goes to show how a farrier or trimmer might just dive in there and make huge changes to that hoof without understanding why that deviation is there in the first place and what it does for the hoof.

Nic has helped me to accept and understand my deviations.

Not sure what the issue is Sez. It's an amazing opportunity for the rehab of the horse and the education of the owner.

Did you get reasons for it?

I don't see how this is really any different from folks announcing/informing say that Lidl have cheap rugs in.

In any case I think we've probably publicised it well enough for Nic and she has a fair number of applicants for the scholarship.

My farrier was talking about this only the other day. He told me he often gets people presenting eg. pigeon toed horses, and asking him if he can correct it, and he tells them he could, or he can leave it sound. very sensible chap he is.

He sounds very sensible indeed! :)

Here's an interesting one for you

Spavin.
Now why would this deviation come and go throughout the year? More noticeable in winter.
And why would a farrier put a lateral extension on - when left to himself, the horse grows a medial extension?

P.S>> rasp it away he was lame until he regrew it. That was 2008

And here it is last year. Spavins much better and horse very comfortable.

Lots of posts on Nic's blog about supportive asymmetry.

That is what my remedial farrier said when he first saw my mare a few years ago - he said she was very very slightly pigeon toed, but that her previous farrier had been trying to force her hoof into the "correct" position. She was much more comfortable when her feet were allowed to grow the way they wanted to. She's unshod now though.

This is a great opportunity for someone, I've become fascinated in the work done at Rockley :)

I'm applying for Atty, I have set aside tomorrow to start work on the application, I can't believe people have managed to apply already! It's going to take a huge amount of effort to get Attys history into something that contains all the pertinet points without being longer than war and peace.
I've also got one referee chomping at the bit and ready to go but my vets not go back in contact with me yet , which is entirley fair enough as he's busy with his day job plus trying to organise getting a new premisis built.
Fingers crossed hey.
Do you think I should include some current hoof photo's?

Photos might well be helpful. Perhaps add a photo of her standing on flat level ground too. I wish you the best of luck. Have you seen that a rider and horse assessment has also been very generously gifted to the winner of the scholarship. :)

Yep the assement and funds towards transportation too!
It's an unbelievable package, I was so shcoked when I saw it all on the blog.
I looked into it all in 2010 but unfortunatley by the time I found out about it all mine and the insurers money was long gone. I finally finished paying the vets fees last year and thought that would be it. But now we have this chance.

Best of luck Alibear - whoever wins it, it will be great for their horse and that is what matters.

Nic has a hard job. The more photos you have the better - but his natural stance will tell her a lot (like does he stand above the centre of his foot or his toes).

Hi ThePony (waves!)

Yes that was me going to see Nic on the 14th. Had a wonderful visit bye learnt so much! Luckily for me my insurance is still covering me or I would have been applying for the scholarship too!! Having been there and seen the place, spent ages talking to Nic and meeting all the horses whose photos I'd seen on the blog I'm utterly convinced Rockley is the place to help the horses with these ongoing problems. Just wish there was more to be done getting the knowledge out there. I would never have known about Rockley without this forum and although I registered years ago I only really started coming on here a few months ago.

How can we help spread the word outside of this forum?
