For a bit of light hearted fun - if you had the space and money, what would you breed, and what bloodlines would you have. Would you stand your own stallions or have a mare own herd

For me, if money was no object, I still wouldnt want to over specialise. I was brought up riding in a number of different disciplines, and still love all aspects of equestrianism.

So I would still have my coloureds and Trakehners, but I would buy in some coloured Trakehner fillies and would run on any colts I felt where good enough. And there are some lovely Trakehner mares I have seen over the years that i would try and buy - like Singing Stud's Henny and last year's Neumunster Champion Mare by Gribaldi.

But my roots are in National Hunt racing and I would love to have a few NH broodmares, and would track down the fillies directly related to my Grandad's Imperial Cup winner Peggy Jones (I've already done some research on it!)

Finally I would buy myself one Hanoverian mare that would combine my favourite bloodlines, she'd be by Weltmeyer out of a Lanthan mare, out of a Wendekreis mare, and of course would be from a multiple champion producing mother line. Then I'd put her in foal to Florestan

Not totally the same but my fantasy competition horse would be by Uriel, out of a very tough TB mare. And it would be orange.

Sadly I think Uriel's youngest are already quite an age....

Oh mine would be a filly out of a champion producing mare by Furioso II and sired by Cumano

And maybe if i won enough on the lottery i'd just buy Cumano lol

well, if money were no object I would have my own property and stand my own stallions which would definitely have to include Hohenstein and K2. I would add some premium mares and breed to my hearts content not having to sell any as I really love to see them grow and mature.

I have a smiliar fantasy to you. i love NH and would love to breed and own a Grand National Winner. I spent many summer holidays with my Irish Grandmother who was a horse racing fanatic, by the time I was 8 yrs had a book with my horses starting prices!! (no doubt now I would be taken into care).

I remember in particular a mare called Gladness who was always placed, she won the Ascot gold Cup with Piggot. I love stayers. I would like to own a horse from that blood line.

If you haven't already you should read John Hislop's book The Brigadier. He wanted to breed from a mare from the Pretty Polly line. B Gerard's father was selected simply because that particular year funds were short and Queen's Hussar was an unfashionable and therefore inexpensive stallion. I think some horses are just meant 'to be'. I love the frisson of a 'story', see my post of Spring Pascal another rather nice little story.

I'm not a breeder (not brave enough to leave the day job) but would love to be. I'd buy this blue roan Trakehner filly
http://www.sporthorse-data.com/d?i=10489277
and breed her to Hibiskus (or another black Trak stallion) when she was old enough and try to breed a stallion good enough to grade. I love roans and would really like to breed some top quality ones.
I'd also love to breed buckskin dressage horses probably by starting with a cremello TB mare.

If it was possible and I had the money I would give my 5yo by Schenkendorf his balls back long enough to collect from him. I wouldn't let him keep them though *imagening the scene from Shrek where Donkey turns in to a stallion*

In real life I am thinking of trying that cross again and hoping for a filly.

I would have a mix of hanoverians and trakehners. I would love to experiment a little - adding arab and anglo arab blood to produce a really beautiful dressage horse. I've also always wanted a palomino, so would use a cremello TB (or warmblood if any licenced hann & genuinely nice). Would also like to breed a nice buckskin. Bloodines - so many of interest so I would have lots of mares -I like the R Lines - Romanov, Rohdiamant, Rubensteing. Also De Niro, and B lines - Belissimo, etc. Traks blood such as Sixtus and his sons - Axis, King Arthur etc. I could go on all night!

that blue roan is a filly, I have the sister to her and she is in foal to Hirtentanz.

BTW the Hanoverians do not allow dilute colors as Palomino, buckskin and for sure no cremello. I do have several Hanoverian bred dilutes but they are registered Oldenburg as Hanover would not allow the color.

I would make Woody into a mare and breed him with Owen ( if he was a stallion) then I would hopefully get something that has the super, calm temperment and paces of Owen combined with the real desire to jump and total toughness and stamina of Woody. That would make a super event horse!

I wouldn't give up my Appaloosas, but would just go on a bit of a spending spree to the USA and Canada and come back with a couple of nice reining prospect stallions and a few mares, distantly related to my girls. I could probably save on air fare and fly back cargo with them and a few saddles.

Though I would do something probably a bit futile and try and breed a few good NH TB's, but what the hell. I would love to buy an nice flat TB mare from the right family to breed to Bertolini, I really like this one and I'd probably loose my new found wealth backing the useless produce!!!! I doubt they would let me breed an Appaloosa to him!!

Small band of Darshaan, Diesis and Shirely Heights broodmares put back to young sires likes Dylan Thomas & Holy Roman Emperor

Well if you fancy a share in a little Bertolini foal, you're more than welcome to join our syndicate. With the way the bloodstock sales are at the moment (for us smaller breeders), really can't see ourselves selling anything next week at Tatts so am going to try and get a syndicate going and race them ourselves. Why are you into Bertoloni?

We put our very nicely bred TB winning mare (by Polar Falcon) to Bertolini and have got a lovely filly from them both. She looks to be an out and out sprinter and we will definitely (fingers crossed) be putting money on her when she comes to race.

As for Darley taking in an Appaloosa to Bertie, well - ask - you never know.

Fantasy breeding for us - we're happy with what we've got, we just need the money here to follow them through.

I would love a gelding by Supreme Leader with a KWPN or SF mare to add a bit more movement. I love Supreme Leader horses they are so bold. Lead the Way is typical of his stock but you never see them eventing that much as he was such a good NH stallion.

I'd like mares from the female families of Shared Interest (so maybe her daugher A.P. Interest - much better tempered filly to her half sister Cash Run), Stick To Beauty, Somethingroyal, Ballade (Glorious Song would do nicely lol - though Pulsatilla and Sunyata are nice mares too from this family (though Sunyata is NUTS, so maybe not her)), Hasili, Goulash, Toussaud, and I'd breed them to stallions like Danzig, Unbridled's Song, Forestry (though obviously not to the mare from the Shared Interest family, as that is his dam) and maybe even gamble on some 2009 first season sires, with such proven mares - like Ravens Pass, Henrythenavigator, Duke of Marmalade, Mount Nelson, New Approach.

If she'd let me, I would join forces with Hollycat so she could experiment breeding my Arab boy to her yummy Trak and Hano mares!

Plus I would buy some fabby WB mares of my own - enlisting expert help from some of the breeders on here to choose the right ones - and breed them to Tobago. (Ooooh - I'd like that lovely grey dressage mare Blue Hors Matinee or whatever she's called - you know the one I mean?)

And I'd buy him some splendid Arab mares too - such as Pianissima (if money were really no object)! And others but won't bore you with a load of names that mean nothing unless you're an Arab-buff.

I'd have Gipsy Rose - full sister to Grafenstolz and dam of Grand Passion, the 2007 trakehner stallion licensing champion. Otherwise, ok, I'd just about settle for owning, standing and competing Grafenstolz himself!

Wow Gwen, is your filly graded with the Trakehner verband? - I really hope your Hirtentanz foal comes out roan, I love Hirtentanz! We could do with a bit more colour in the Trakehner world

She will be presented next year when she has the foal at her side. I chose a homozygous for black stallion so the foal is either black or blue roan which both is lovely. It is a linebreeding to Kostolany.

Id still have my ponies.

I'd put my mare to Don Joshi, and Hilkens Black Delight, although it might happen anyway!

I'd also make Stroller a stallion and cover my mare - that could be an absolute cracker.

I'd keep watching Casino Royale K and my filly would go to him.

Also, a stallion son of Laban would stand with me, all his offspring I've seen have been good (and I have a filly by him)

I'd buy the Strawberry Hill filly I saw too.

Woohoo! So she is - how stupid of me - I was just looking at the pedigree you sent me. I do wish I were more clued up on WB breeding - am trying to learn but there's so much info!! Anyway, you are right - we're already planning one of my 'fantasy' Tobago/WB breedings! How lucky am I?!! Thank you again.

what a gorgeous bub - I love the hair
smile.gif

I have always wanted a blanked spot appaloosa - there used to be a programme on about wild bill hickok (showing my age) and his sidekick had one - just fell in love with them.

What is your foal's breeding?
