No one is saying these feet look great they are at the beginning of a much needed break from shoeing and AH 's farrier thinks so to.
AH you are apsolutly doing the right thing , I would consider getting boots and pads I was very anti boots but am now converted.

Neglect haha! Kk should explain how a previously very lame horse with terrible feet who is now pretty sound and showing massive improvement in the good can be deemed as neglect!! I'm sure that whw would be fascinated to hear her justification when they're dealing with starving horses with overgrown feet due to the economic crisis. Op you keep going-its working!! :-)

The chips are irrelevant. You focus too much on cosmetics and not enough on mechanics. How about you push off if you can't actually offer any advice to someone whose horse is lame in shoes but "shoe it"? Or did you mean "shoot it"? Because that's about where this owner was before she put time and effort into working with her farrier on his recommendation that the horse should spend a period out of shoes.

Now you see here is someone else whose opinion regarding barefoot I respect highly.
You are about right CPT - and you and I both know how I lost my last lad. This is at least something within my control.
Losing Hercules would just about push me over the edge.

I think for pathological hooves that have been out of shoes for such a short time, the progress has been astounding.

It very much looks like the better connected growth from the top is from the recent changes you have made and the bottom of the hoof actually looks stronger than it 'should' be.

I think you should be extremely proud of yourself and your horse.

I would be.

How do you feel about his hooves? Is he sounder than before?

Yes - he is sound on all surfaces, but still marginally footy on the stones. He finds them ouchie :(
I know they don't look pretty, but I am really pleased.

AH,

I think they look pretty good. But I'm new at this. I went from 1 horse bare 3 weeks ago to all bare now! We have a long road to go but this is for the best. All were bare on the hinds so just dealing with the fronts now.

Also wanting to check in to see if you are feeling any better. I hope you are. I did some barn stuff with a mask on for the first time in 5 days. I had to get out of the house!

Always Henesy, I will refer you to your post of the 16/08/2012....

My lad is crippled lame on all four and I am presently syringing bute into him and have him in on a very deep shavings bed . My vet is coming up later today or tomorrow.
He is not eating (probably because he is in so much pain) and I am beside myself with worry. ATM he is barefoot as there is no foot to attach a shoe to and also because his feet need a long rest as the risk of infection is quite high.

Compare THAT to now where he is a little 'ouchy' over rough ground.

I think you should carry on with what you are doing and feel damned pleased with yourself for such a turn around in just one month (ish).

And it hasn't cost you ££££s either :D
