To prove a point, mostly to myself, I ( a fairly overweight person) walked 38 miles yesterday. I raised nearly £600 (and counting) for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
I hurt a lot today and feel like I've been kicked in the knees with steel toe caps. But I'm also immensely proud of myself and the team that walked with me. 5 set out, and 4 finished. The weather was attrocious, gale force winds, sharp cold showers and no sunshine at all! The support crew were awesome, providing food, drink and clean dry socks at each stop. Got in last night after being up 36 hours, and walking for 18 of those, & promptly showered and went to sleep.
So yes, you can be fit and fat... just a question of what you're fit for. At the moment for me, that's not a lot of anything!
