The Black Stallion - Directed by Francis Ford Coppola, about 1979. Beautifully filmed and a moving story. I went with my grandma to the cinema when I was 9 and read all the books in the series. I even got to see the star ' Cassoulet' I think he was called, when he performed at the National Horse Show in Madison Square Garden, New York, in about 1982. Watch it if you can.
Phar Lap and international velvet! Both make me cry!
My OH managed to get me Phar lap on dvd for Christmas with a seperate dvd with film from the time he was around, just haven't got round to watching it yet!
The Film version of My Friend Flicka. No, not that cr*p one that they did a couple of years black where the horse was black, but the old 1940's (i think, maybe 50's/60's) one. It remindes me of watching old westerns as a kid and getting out all of my model horses and playing with them
lol.
Also love Hidalgo, The Black Stallion and the film version of National Velvet.
Horse Whisperer, Black Stallion, National Velvet, International Velvet, Sea Biscuit, Hidalgo, Champion, Flicker and Racing Stripes are fab!! Has anyone seen Equus?? Very wierd film, didn't like that one. Oh dear, looking at the list think I may watch too many DVD's!! XX
Has to be the Black Stallion for me! Most beautifully shot and played (I had to laugh earlier - someone said, correctly, that the horse that played the Black was called 'Cassoulet' - that's true, but it was spelt 'Cass-ole' and he belonged to San Antonio arabians - the laughing bit was that a 'Cassoulet' is a French stew made out of duck, sausage and goose fat!! Not where he would like to end up, I'm sure so it made me giggle
Phar Lap is fab, as is The Man from Snowy River.
I can't actually watch many horsy things anymore, as I tend to cry at the most silly, small emotional bits. Watership Down for example, is a complete no-go zone and its only about bunnies!
