You need to!

Champions - brill film - I think they use some of the actual footage from the Grand National

Phar Lap - makes me cry at the end

Black Beauty - another one that makes me cry

National Velvet

International Velvet

Sylvester - was on BBC yonks ago - still have a tape of it - about a "cow" girl who works on a ranch who eventually makes it in the eventing world

Phar Lap - a friend of mine in Australia sent me a special edition of the DVD (it was the 75th Anniversary of Phar Lap's death - or something) the version shown on TV here is a different edit, the DVD starts with Phar Lap dying then goes on to tell his story and there were a couple of extra scenes that I don't remember seeing in the TV version...

National Velvet - I always start crying at the bit where she's walking home from school, checks to see if anyone's looking, then pretends she's cantering a horse! I used to do that!!

My Friend Flicka (the original version with Roddy McDowell) - just a classic!

I bought both of those ^^ on DVD last year :D

Has anyone seen "Into the West"?

It's about a couple of Irish traveller boys who find a magical white horse, called Tir na Nog. He gets taken by the police and sold to be a showjumper. Then the boys steal him back and run away across Ireland with him.

It stars Gabriel Byrne, was made maybe late 90s? Really really good and SUCH a weepie!!!! I haven;t found anyone else who's seen it, but I do have it on DVD.

Yes, I saw that, it was hilarious, specially when they took the horse up in the lift!

Champions, OMG how could I have forgotten that one, me and my best friend used to watch that every week and sit there crying our eyes out. Then we got a race horse fresh out of training at the yard we worked at and he was related to Aldaniti and trained by Josh Gifford too :) can you imagine how excited we were!!
Hee Hee Id forgot about that.. Now what was his name??????

are the doing a remake of Phar Lap?
I've just put it on my list on love film and it says it's not released yet. I definitely remember the original one, he was making him gallop through really deep sand in the desert in the beginning.

In real life when he died was his heart twice the size of a normal horse or did I imagine that?

International Velvet is mine.

My Mum took me to London to see it when I was a little girl (I'm 43 now!) and my eye's were glued to the screen from start to finish.

I wanted to be Tatum O'Neill and I wanted to own Arizona Pie !!

Phar Lap's heart was abnormally large, but I can't remember whether it was said to be twice the size of that of a normal thoroughbred.

I would be interested to learn whether they are doing a re-make of this film. Can't imagine how they could improve on the original though.

Wuick, no one's looking, we can canter on this grass verge!!

LOL

To the best of my knowledge Phar Lap hasn't been released on DVD in Europe. I got my copy from Australia.

And he did have a very large heart, apparently it was available to see in a museum in Aus
