Can't believe I have fed tomorrow's sugar beat and not today's. Its been soaked for 6 hours not the 24 it says on the packet. Talking I got distracted and can't believe I am so stupid. They all look okay, but I am a worrier and live an hour away from yard. How worried would you be ?

How much did you feed? I'd be keeping as closer eye on them as possible. Could yard do regular checks for you? Just for peace of mind as wouldnt be over concerned think if you've fed it it is likely well soaked as I'm sure you would have noticed if it was still in pellets or shred form.I would guess it would be soaked enough after six anyway. We have commented in the past how beet looked like it could be fed after a couple of hours of soaking although we never did.
Don't beat yourself up about it keep checking and call vet if anything looks amiss , mistakes happen. It's just a lesson learned.

My old horse once ate a considerable amount of unsoaked speedibeet when on part livery. It was an accident - she and another pony managed to get into a bag. Very apologetic livery owner, who did checks on them regularly, but all was fine.
if someone can check on them to put your mind at rest, that would be perfect.

We had a horse eat loads of the 24 hour stuff straight out of the bag. No idea what time because he'd escaped overnight. Vet just said to keep an eye on him and he was fine.

Friend of mines did the same, managed to escape her stable and merrily made her way into the feed store and guzzled half a bag of speedibeet. Vet advised to keep an eye, and was on standby, but she was fine thankfully!

I don't think it should be a major cause of concern, but we do all worry, so if you can get someone to check them I would, if only to put your mind at rest. Earlier this year a friend's horse was fed a scoop of unsoaked sugar beet pellets by mistake, the vet told her not to worry, so I would assume that you are in the clear.

If you think about it, most feeds in a nut or pellet form will expand a fair bunch when soaked, but a lot of those are fed dry. Even dog kibbles do the same (and some people choose to feed them soaked because of this). So these feeds will start to swell in contact with copious amounts of saliva and stomach acid.
In some places, beet flakes are even fed dry! (Can't say I'd be in a rush to try this one mind!)

Whilst that's no reason to not soak feeds that say they need to be soaked, it does give you something to think about at least! :)

Mine broke into tack room, ate unknown quantities of unsoaked speedibeet, choked, vet called out who tried to flush and failed. Lots of drugs and left overnight (with me on constant watch). Next morning she was right as rain - I was significantly poorer (it was of course a bank hold) but very relieved. I bought a metal feed bin straight after. Glad the ponies are fine.
