Just wondering whether any of you may be able to help me and give me any tips as to what to feed my veteran weimeraner. She will be 14 and a half in a couple of days time and apart from a bit of arthritis for which she was prescribed a low dose of Rimadyl in January she is doing really well, if anything a bit too well. The problem we have is that she's on the yard all day with my boisterous boxer and is always on the go, she never rests and constantly trots around, climbs large straw and hay bales and forages around for bits and bobs. Shes fed on Chappie at the moment and we've noticed she's looking a bit lean and would like to get a bit more weight on her. She loves her food and seems perfectly healthy in every other way. I'd really like to get her on a dry complete/mixer food and then feed her some tinned meat alongside it too. Anyone have any suggestions?! I think she would pile more weight on is she wasn't so intent on keeping herself so well exercised!!

If she has had joint problems in the past I would be reluctant to try and pile too much on her - try salmon oil or tuna in sunflower oil for a bit more condition :)
Most tinned meat is just water. Tripe is good too, you can get minced meat from the freezers in the larger pet stores.

Echo what CC said - if you look at the moisture content on pouches it's generally 70-80% water. Is there any particular reason you want to give her pouches/tins or is it just for more calories?

I'd try tripe (if you have no local stockists then I think Anglian Meat Products will do retail sales) as that is meant to be good for weight gain.

I would really get her off the chappie it is some of the worst food to feed a dog.

I would be looking at maybe some senior mix dry foods. I feed RAW so can't advise exactly which ones but look for something with high protein. And i would be feeding some real meat with it none of the horrible dog meat in a can. Some mince and some tinned fish.
