Would Alfa A and fibre beet be fine for my thoroughbred?
Do I need more fibre in this diet? Also I have been advised pasture mix but then others have said it's made their TB's fizzy.
I have SO many options written down of what to give him and please no "well you shouldn't have a thoroughbred if you don't know what to feed him" etc. I know exactly what to feed him I'm just asking if that would be alright or i I need to add anything more to that?
So fibre beet and alfa A ok? or more!?

He's good at holding condition but the previous owners said when he was on Alfa A he looked incredible and it encouraged his weight to hold better so definately going on that! He's in and out of his box daily atm but he looks amazing and he's not on anything but when he comes down to me in two days he'll be in work every day pretty much so he'll need a hard feed!:)

good or bad doer, character, work he needs to do, turnout, hay/hayledge fed, health issues?

Off the top of my head I wouldn't go for alpha a as I prefer to avoid alfafa. Not alot wrong with unmollassed beet and unmolassed chaff. Added oil (microionized linseed) for extra cals if needed. Add to that a multi vit like pink powder or something similar.

Have known a number of sensible horses to go off their heads on pasture mix so I wouldn't use it myself!

Feeding is such a minefield isn't it! So many options and suggestions, unfortunately I think a lot of it comes down to trial and error.

Does your TB drop weight?

As above RE work load and holding weight. I found Alfa A Oil and Calm and Condition Cubes put/kept weight on my Tb without fizzing him up.

Blue Chip Food Balancer, Safe and Sound Chaff and Kwik Beet, that combination brought my TB round. He is a hot head so had to be careful. Oh, and very good haylage ad lib.

The thoroughbred I used to ride (ex racer, average doer, light work) eats hi-fi, speedibeet and calm & condition. Not sure on the quantities but he usually looks well on it.

It's a NIGHTMARE haha!
He does seem to hold weight really well actually but he needs to tone up! Then again, I don't want to keep changing his feed so preferably something that will tone him up and keep him there?:)

Work is the best thing to tone him up :)

I feed mine Alpha oil and high fibre cubes, plus pink powder and as much hay as he can eat and he's looking good (can drop weight at the drop of a hat).

Second this, most TBs need work in order to maintain muscle and look good.

I have recently changed to Pure Feeds, Pure Condition. Jack can be fussy but is eating this happily and for the first time actually licking his bucket clean. He is now stuck in on box rest but so far not turning in to a loony and looks good for going in to winter.
