I’m thinking of buying this thoroughbred mare I went to see and was just wandering what people fed their thoroughbreds that works for them and isn’t ridiculously expensive?

There aren't any rules about what feed for what breed.
You need to provide more information when you have got the horse - body condition, level of work, temperament, forage sources/quantity etc?

It really depends on the horse. What is your horse like condition wise if she is skinny or is a little bit thin I recommend a scoop of hard feed and beet pulp you can get them for cheap and the bags last you ages. If her weight is okay I would hold off on giving her anything than hay and grass until you get to know her. What level of work is she in.

I fed both my TBs in the same way as I’d feed any other horse - they aren’t a different species, honest 😊

She is currently in a low level of work- they’ve just been light hacking and schooling her, but I would be increasing the level of work as I trained her up. From what I’ve learnt from the owners she keeps her weight pretty well.

Then just feed what they were feeding and if she drops off after you up the work, increase the feed. TB's can have sensitive guts so keeping the feed as current will be best as she'll have enough changes going on with new yard/owner/routine etc.

Definitely feed for work done, not for anything you might be thinking of doing.

The last tb I had here was in a fair amount of work on nothing but grass in the summer and he still looked a bit porky, in winter ad lib haylage, grass, a token feed of grassnuts and linseed was all he required to maintain his weight, some are very good doers others not so good, just like any other breed or type you feed the horse in front of you not the one other people have.

I have an amazing looking thoroughbred, we have a great feed regime and even though its probably a wee bit more expensive you dont need to feed so much so in my opinion it works!
