Hoping for some advice please... I have a 17hh rising 8 yrs old Dutch Warmblood who does not gain weight easily. I have even been asked if he is an ex-racehorse as he's so tucked up behind and has poor top line and quarters. He scoped clear for gastric ulcers and vet thinks he may have mild hindgut issues but not worth investigating more as he's bright and well in himself. After researching I've replaced haylage with hay and he has Thunderbrook meadow nuts, Pink Mash, Copra Coolstance and micronised linseed. He's very fussy and wouldn't eat TB base mix or Condition & Compete. I've read not to feed alfalfa, beet and molasses and just found out soya is not great (soya hulls in Pink Mash so I won't be buying that again). Any suggestions for something high-fibre that's natural I can add? He prefers a mash consistency so I considered bran but I understand that's not without problems either!

Ooh Thunderbrook do whole oats for soaking so will give them a call tomorrow. Thank you.

Thats what I use, my 2 mares look amazing. The soaked oats have really helped sort out the hind gut problem one of them has had lingering on.
I soak mine for 24krs the drain and leave for a further 24hrs, I make up around 3 batches a week/10days, I will probably make them up in smaller quantities as the warmer weather comes.

I would put the horse onto Eugsin SLH .
I would feed a high quality pre and pro biotic and do it at a high level for six months
I would feed him bran ( speak to forage plus about the best balancer for bran ) oats ,I would give some speedibeet but monitor it carefully .grass cubes or grass chop and micronised linseed .
I would use nothing but straights the simplist diet possible .

Slobbermash. Oats. Linseed. Readigrass. (no fillers or additives etc)

Is what I feed my 13yo exracer with acidosis. He's competing Inter 1 and never looked better.

Veteran vitalilty is good.My friends horse who lost a lot of weight was put onto it and he looks absolutely fabby now,saw him at the weekend and he is positively glowing, his coat is shiny and he really doesn't look his age at all. he's filled out and his coat is so shiny due to the linseed.worth a look in my book.

Sorry meant to say veteran Vitality is a Allan & Page feed.I think she said it was around twelve pounds but lasts forever. He's put on 6KG between visits to the vets some two months apart and at the last vet weigh in he had put on another 2KG so nice steady weight gain.vet says he looks super weight.
