Our setter is 8 months old and has decided to eat 1 meal a day instead of the 2 that I normally feed.
I had him checked by the vet who said he looks a picture of health and found nothing wrong with him.
He ate 2 meals until he was 7 months old now he turns his nose up at breakfast and just wants to go out and mooch around the garden. He gets plenty of free excercise and play with my other dogs in a large garden and a good walk ( on the lead )every day
He really tucks into his tea (fed around 3:30 PM) and will ask for seconds!
I am offering breakfast put taking it away if not eaten in 15 minutes otherwise the others will eat it .
I have increased the teatime meal so he gets plenty (fed a measure of complete diet mixed with fresh chicken and tripe)
He will not eat the complete on its own.
All my dogs are fed 2 meals a day particularly as Setters can be prone to bloat
though I have never had a dog get bloat and have had 5 setters.
Do I continue to offer breakfast or just accept he only wants one meal a day and only offer food at 3:30.
He is full of beans well covered and has a lovely shine to his coat.
My other 2 dogs happily each 2 meals a day.

My poodle is a bit like this too -he's never seems to be too bothered to eat his supper time meal, but happily demolishes breakfast. He will EVENTUALLY pick at his evening kibble, but to be honest, I know it's that he's being fussy over it. His weight is fine and he's a healthy specimen, so I'm pretty over it. He's just not particularly greedy.

You might perhaps just try dividing your setter's feed in to two rations...the amount that he happily eats at 3.30, divide that in to two and offfer the other half in the morning. Maybe he's just getting too much with the current amount?

That is what I was doing originally but however small his tea he still does not look at breakfast and I am concerned that he will drop weight just eating a half of what I woud consider his normal rations .
I just figured that I would try to get enough into him at tea time as he will eat it then.
Like your poodle he isn't a greedy dog and never begs for food or picks up anything when out and about.
In training he isn't mad about treats prefers the reward of getting his squeaky toy.

I suppose it's better than having a dog that is constantly hungry and will pester nonstop for food (though mine have never done that - they know they ONLY get fed at feeding time - and trust me, they can TELL TIME!) :D

All of mine have weaned themselves on to a once a day feeding scedule.

If you are worried about bloat split the evening meal into 2 and leave an hour or 2 inbetween.

I would not worry at all, self regulating dogs are generally of ideal weight, he simply does not need the extra food.
I have also had large breed dogs all my life inc deerhounds and have never ever had one bloat and I have never fed twice daily always once and I have never raised bowls either;) Im the opposite of the usual bloat belief, inc one meal and non raised bowls. Im just super careful re exercise and food.
I would not worry at all.

Thanks Cayla you have made me feel a lot better.
I also don't raise bowls and I am very careful re feed and exercise and as I said I have had 5 Setters and never had a case of bloat.
It is just that many of the Setter breeders say 2 meals are better .and my other 2 setters are happy with 2 meals, still I suppose they are all different.!

Setters aren't the piggiest dogs in the world but he is the first one that has reduced himself to 1 meal a day.
He is a beautiful athletic looking dog with a great shine on his coat he has loads of energy and when he free runs every day on our own fields he looks fabulous.
