I have a 5yo TB hard-to-keep-weight-on-sugar-and-barley-intollerant horse with ulcers too... We have tried various feed combos over the last 2 years, the most success we had was with Allen and Page feeds but one gave him the wrong energy (loopy pony) and the other made him toooo calm. He could be very agressive in his stable too, looks like this was his way of saying his tummy hurt - he was also a slug to ride, kick smack kick smack and could nap/buck like a good un... vet believes all conected to the fact he had a sore belly...
anywho... we started him on Winergy Equillibrium about 6 weeks ago, its a complete feed so you dont add anything to it, just 3 kilos a day over two feeds with the odd carrot, I was reluctant to start it in winter as I thought he's end up a toastrack without fibrebeet etc, its infact the opposite - he is fat, forward going without being stupid (for the first time in 2 years) and has stopped biting/getting aggressive in his stable.... he gets nothing else, no supplements, no calmer, no extra oil or vits, nothing.... just his 2 feeds and his normal hay ration
this is him at the moment.... he's worked 5-6 times a week and should hopefully go to a few ODE's next year
the other thing that might help you is a thing my vet told me... in winter when the horses come in with empty bellies from there being no real grass (obviously i dunno what your turnout situation is but i'll tell you this anyway) then us riding them or exercising them makes the acid in their stomachs swish round and can aggravate the ulcers, making them play up, whan they come in or about 30 min before you ride give them chaff, just chaff, as it neutralises the acid in the stomach and thus keeps them much happier when being ridden.... seems to have worked with my lad....
website is www.winergy.co.uk , my lad gets med energy as he isnt the most forward going - though now he is like a rocket so it ooks like he wasnt forward going before cos of his sore belly!
I tried endurance mix on Darcy on the advice of Baileys helpline... huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge mistake, its still got sugar in it and still got cereals in it, he went nuts, got aggressive and I had to take him off it and leave him for 2 weeks to let him chill out again.... be careful if you decide to go this route....
I hope this all helps!
