Seems like the world and his wife is puzzling over condiitoning feeds that dont heat or excite - this is an unusual one!

I want some oomph... in a TB that is naturally very laid back.

I've tried adding oats, tried A&P Power and Performance, both showed a small difference in the first fortnight of being weaned onto new feed but nothing post then.

The horse is fed 3 feeds a day, based around fibre based mixes with added vit and min with slobbermash for condition, pink powders added, 8 hours turnout and ad lib hayledge.

Any ideas - are there any products out there that will give more energy? Seems hard to reserach as all feed companies are obsessed with calming, slow feeds!

Was considering Microfeed as a next option to try (ETA I have given the above feeds 2 months each to have effect, then gradually changed to new option), I have a few bags of D&H staypower but I don't think that will give this horse enough instant rocket fuel?

Looking forward to replies!

Tiger oats are better than normal oats

Also add a good cup of rapeseed oil, this will give her more staying power

another one is a competition mix

Dodson & Horrell competition mix.

Or Spillers Instant Energy.

D & H has more oats than Spillers - oats are 1st ingredient rather than about 6th.

I don't know anything about racehorse food, but that might be better and your horse is a Thoroughbred after all!

You may find that it doesn't matter what you feed him he may never have the 'oomph' you want. Some horses naturally are laid back & easy going & don't have an instant turn of speed. I could eat the same food as Linford Christie but it wouldn't make me run like him.

Rather than changing feed have you tried soemthing like NAF Ener-G? Like oats it works for some and not for others but it is dynamite for my laid back coblet. (Oats don't touch him!)
