I used to use AloeRide
and didn't find it any better than the juice

Thanks, I only use it occasionally but thought a powder would be easier for storage so it’s handy to know it’s available.

Sooooo. Just got some Honeychop Lite & it has Thyme & Oregano in, alsong with Mint & Basil. Dave loves it, so I'm thinking I can stop buying herbs separately.
Anyone else trying it?
I'd got it on recommendation so I can feed some chaff before riding.
I had Arch on it for a few years before swapping back to the plain oat straw. I found the quality to be a bit iffy - one bag had stones in it and another couple were very dusty. Though some of the latter might well be due to me taking several months to get through a bag.

eta: Honeychop were brilliant about the bag with stones in - vouchers sent asap for a new bag after I sent them photos of the stones I had found. I do really like the oat straw, it's bright and non-dusty.

I don't think that there is a huge amount of herbs in the lite & healthy, though the marigolds are very visible.

Thanks all. I'll keep adding herbs.

I usually get my oily herbs through buy Wholefoods Online. However, one of my friends pointed out to me that Nuts in Bulk sell them at a much lower price.

Has anyone ordered from Nuts in Bulk before and, if so, how did you find the quality of the herbs compared to BWFO?

Yip, I posted on page 7 about them.

No idea how you prepare quality but they look and smell the same. Delivery is by FedEx.

Although they appear to be out of oregano just now. I'm waiting on an email to say that it's back in stock.

Ah, I must have missed your post about that. I'm glad you've had a good experience though.

I also spotted they were out of oregano earlier when I went to have a look. It is quite a saving getting them from there (as I buy 3kg+ of each herb at a time) so I'll probably give them a go for my next order now you've fed back they look and smell the same as the herbs from BWFO.

I buy 1kg at a time of oregano, rosemary & thyme along with 500gm of mint. I made up a basket at BWFO since nuts was out of stock and there was a big price difference.

I've ended up buying what I can from Nuts and 1kg of oregano from amazon (cheaper than bwfo too).

Sorry to resurrect this thread... How long before you notice a difference in your horses? One of mine always looks bloated, (has had extensive checks by vet, and worming programme up to date), and I've been feeding a mix of thyme, oregano, mint, fennel seeds and marjoram for a few weeks now. I know how uncomfortable being bloated is, I feel sorry for him! I don't want to chuck more stuff at him, he only has a spoonful of soaked meadow magic nuts and 300ml of the herbs for his no bute

How long had you been feeding for? I'm finding it's expensive, and if it's not beneficial I could do with saving the money 😂

Emm, I can't remember. Wait and I'll check when I first ordered them. Since February 2023. One horse has been really ill (not herb related) but the other 2 are fine and not seen any changes or improvements in them.

I buy from Nutsinbulk now and it's much cheaper. It costs me ~£10pm per horse. I buy 1kg of oregano, thyme & rosemary plus 500gm mint. With postage that's under £30 iirc and it lasts over a month.

I've been getting it from wholefoods... Maybe I'm expecting miracles too quickly, and the grass has been a bit all over the place with this weather... They may as well finish what I've got anyway, I did sort of do an apocalypse prepping type order 🫣

That's who I bought from originally. Nutsinbulk are much cheaper and it's been excellent service. It's FedEx deliveries and really good communication.

They were out of oregano so I bought 1kg from amazon and it was cheaper than wholefoods too

Mine won't eat the oily ones on their own - I've added in nettle, dandelion, rosehips and some mint, all of which makes it acceptable in his eyes.

I do get a bit carried away adding in different herbs, a bit like a witch lobbing stuff in a cauldron... No adverse reactions to anything (usually feed a week, then add something else in if all good, that's how we got to the mix we are at now), but no changes for good either, that I can spot at the moment anyway. I suppose they have to work from the inside out, and he has a lot of insides!

Mine is still bloated (or fat tbh. The other one is a good weight)
It took a while to notice any changes but they both had growth lines in their hooves from when I started them on it, their coats have been so much shinier, even in her winter coat I could see the reflection of the sea rippling of it and her suspected sarcoids are disappearing. I only feed rosemary, oregano and thyme too as adding more would cost more and I really don’t need to be adding more cost 🫣
I don’t think I could stop using them now I know they have made a difference. In a perfect world they would help with her weight but they do have benefits for mine.

I'm not sure I've noticed any different that I can say is definitely attributable to the herbs. I started the new one last February I think, he came with really dry skin and has fws. Skin is now great and so far none of mine are suffering with fws.

I guess I'd only know if I stopped them but I think variety in diet is really important and I only feed a 50ml scoop daily (probably 30g?) so it's really cheap.

He's actually lost a load of weight in the 18 months I've had him, you can just see his ribs... Just had a bloaty belly! Once I've finished this horde of herbs I'll par it back to just those three I think, unless something does something worth keeping it in

I think my overthinking mind has over complicated my mix, hence the expense... I'll take note and cut back next order

There was a notable difference in mine in that he became more forward under saddle and put on weight and kept it on (until recently but think it's because I cut some other feed and while he kept weight in the warmer weather, isn't doing as well with coat change and colder weather). I did run out and he became very stuffy so I've kept him on and won't take him off. The sarcoids all shriveled up and died as well so again, not wanting to take him off!

I think I need to give it more time then, and maybe simplify my next order! I am perhaps overcomplicating things and expecting too much.

Thanks all for your input! 🙏

I’ve lost the hind gut ulcers horse to another issue. She had absolutely needed the oily herbs supplementation to maintain her post Equibiome protocol improvement.

I’ve kept the other two on oily herbs and it has made a noticeable improvement to their coats. I’ll keep them on it indefinitely. I add rose hips and spearmint to the basic thyme/oregano/rosemary mix.

Different herbs do different things. I added marigolds and cleavers and he lost weight. He wasn't the biggest fan of the marigold flowers so removed them and he gained again. So yes, I would simplify and go from there.

Yes, I did look into the marjoram and the fennel seeds as specific additions due to their reputation for helping with gas and bloating, as he has been prone to it since I got him. I maybe haven't given them a chance
