Feeding Oily Herbs - pros and cons

Well...I've been on it for circa 4/6 weeks. Circa 10 days ago I ran out of a hormone supplement...and the last week I've had quite a pleasant time.

So either the D&H Herbs are amazing or the Hormone supplement wasn't doing much

I've actually come to the conclusion that the horse is what the horse is...in the same way I am what I am.

So I won't be spending loads on supplements...just a joint one and something aimed at guts and the rest will be spent on wine
I like the way you think!

Never one to watch the bandwagon roll by, I jumped onto the oily herbs train about six months ago.

Didn't notice any immediate/significant improvements, but I see my ponies twice a day every day, and am over-compensatory of observer bias, so I'm probably the wrong person to make a judgement 😂 🤷‍♂️

However today I gave them both a thorough groom as I had the morning off work, and the winter coat was practically jumping off, and I have to say I was a little bit stunned.

Despite both being Welsh As, and having a grandsire in common, my two are VERY different to each other, physically and personality wise. Charlotte has a lovely satiny smooth coat and full, bushy, silky tail, however no matter what I fed her or what potions I put on her, Treacle's coat was always coarse and a bit scruffy, and her tail spindly, a bit brittle, and rather pathetic looking. This morning I realised that is no longer the case! Her tail is looking far fuller than before (though still about a third of the volume of Charlotte's...) and her summer coat was, for the first time that I've noticed, coming through soft and silky. I'm thrilled to bits.

Whilst I know a shiny coat isn't everything, I do think that (among other signs) it can be a fair indicator of general health, so I'm happy to go along with the idea of the herbs doing some good for them both.

They get the below:

Treacle - EMS, laminitic episode 20 months ago - oregano, rosemary, thyme, spearmint, marigold, cleavers, nettle, milk thistle, rose hips - about 50ml in total
Charlotte - EMS, sweet itch, prone to panic - oregano, rosemary, thyme, spearmint, camomile - about 45ml in total

A big thank you to everyone who has participated in this thread 🥰

I’ve been feeding my girl oily herbs since she arrived with me in July last year. She had about 6 sarcoids which had all gone by around November. I ran out of Oregano and didn’t get round to ordering more for over a month (still carried on feeding Thyme and Rosemary). To my dismay I noticed a couple of round patches of hair loss and what looked to be a flat, scaly sarcoid starting in between her back legs. Started feeding Oregano again and within a week or two the hair had grown back and flat sarcoid had disappeared. Not sure if it’s just a coincidence but I’ll take it!
