It is SO frustrating looking for a puppy! I didn't think it would be so hard to find what I am looking for but apparently it is easier to find/buy a X breed these days! I have nothing against X breeds at all (I may in fact end up with one!) but they just seem to have over taken the pure bred dogs.

Is anyone else sharing my puppy hunting frustration?

Depends what breed you're looking for really? I know I'll be on a waiting list for 18+ months for my next sibe but the cocker pup came about very easily despite dismissing anything that wasn't top lines, health tests etc.

Im looking for a working type cocker bitch. Preferably golden or chocolate coloured and from smallish parents (although im flexiable on that!)

I have trawled so many websites for weeks but cant find anything within budget or near enough to me.

If I wanted a cockapoo I would have no end of choice!

We got a golden working cocker bitch with good breeding within a week of looking. Was mainly brown boys though, the golden girls seem to get snapped up fast. We had to travel about 200 Miles to England though.

Had just trawled lots of sites, sent off lots of emails, contacted lots of breeders, then got a phone call one Friday morning, and went to get her that afternoon.

If you're happy to travel to Shropshire I know of a recent mating of small (agility medium) liver/chocolate working cockers, full battery of health tests. Not sure if they're already booked up but can put you in touch. :)

I chose a breeder and then got myself on their wait list -- and waited over a year. I didn't look beyond that. I had time...next dog I get will probably be a similar way.

Google Will Cluelee, also Shropshire, I think. Or ask Alec, he had a youngster back recently!

There's a FB page called Gundogs wanted and for sale, often health tested puppies come up. There's a very good breeder in Luton, Minterburn. My mate had a cracking dog from them last year. They prefer working homes.

3 beasties...I share your frustration.in dec. my much loved dog died and I have been trying to find a health tested ,small female, from a show breeder....no luck.(poodle).
in the end I have opted to buy a completely different ,small breed(schnauzer)it's probably going to be fine, but not what I set out to do.
in Italy ,for sure, the breeders seem to keep their female pups to breed on with and only offer the male pups to the public....have you found that to be the case in UK?

Gamekeepers seem to be the people to approach for working cockers round here. There are quite a few shoots round here (north east) though.

I'm in Hereford so Shropshire would be fine :) Also Liverpool area as have family up there which we regularly visit.

Yes definitely seem to be less bitched available! I don't mind waiting to a degree but I am also aware that my lab is lonely and now on his own for the first time since a pup (we lost my 18 year old terrier in October last year) and is definitely missing the company.

………..!

There are puppies aplenty! Google Poolgreen Gundogs (Will Cluley, an excellent man). Google Moelfamau Gundogs (more excellent people). Google Millsey Gundogs (Jim Milligan, and I believe that he has puppies now, and they'll be affordable too!)

Failing all that, PM me, let me know geographically where you are, and I'll source a suitable litter for you. Do bear one thing in mind though, very few who breed working dogs bother with health testing. The testing is done via a physical inspection and the dog's history!

Alec.

Have found a beautiful litter of pups tonight, not ready till end of March but I think they would be worth waiting for! Just waiting to see if the distance is doable as much further than I intended to travel and then it will be the hard part of picking which one I want to take home.
