About five weeks ago my youngster came in with a tree trunk back leg! He also had scabby legs, thought it was mud rash...kept him in cleaned and sudocreme ect...cleared some scabs but the swelling remained! Got vet full check, antibiotic and cream! Still didn't clear vet again more antibiotic...the swelling went down, but for the past week or two he's been so quiet and I knew he wasn't moving properly, but kinda presumed it was the hard ground the wet the cold getting over mud rash ect anyhow farrier been today and dug out a rather large shard of stone right in the bulb of his hoof! Hence my guilt..I knew there was something wrong with him, farrier said I wouldn't have noticed it as it embedded and covered! But the vet should have cause he checked for abcess! It's been there a while :-( anyhow he's just gone out leaping bucking and generally hooning about so he must feel better!

Don't feel guilty, you had the vet to your horse when needed. It's one of those things. That's why we have vets and farriers. No harm done, and as you say your horse must be feeling better :)
