Normally post under a different account but wanted to keep this separate...
Approx 8 weeks ago I was lucky enough to be in the position to buy my first brand new saddle. Fitter came out, horse went beautifully in it. It was a lot of money (over £1000) so I didn't buy there and then as I wanted to mull on it. Decided to go ahead with it but when I got it home I noticed the leather had a worn looking mark on the front of the saddle flap and a slightly darker mark under the flap near the stirrup bar. As I've never had a new saddle before I put this down to it needing conditioning as it had maybe got a bit dry in storage etc.
Since then the worn leather at the front of the saddle has got more and more worn, despite regular conditioning and utmost care on my part. It has not been bashed or scraped in any way and is stored on a rack in the house with a fleece cover on at all times.
I contacted the maker of the saddle who said they would replace the pads. However they have said that I've damaged the saddle and therefore can't have a replacement saddle. They also said it needs assessing... Which worries me that I might send it back only for them to insist its my fault and send me a bill. They are adamant I've scraped it.
With hindsight I should have complained about the worn section as soon as I got it home but I hate complaining about things and I thought the leather may just be dry... Naive, yes, I know.
I'm not naming any names in this post because I don't think that's fair, but would you be happy with paying over £1000 for a saddle that has to be repaired rather than receiving a replacement? Or am I just being a bit precious? The maker has also offered me a refund but told me if this is my preference then I can 'take my services elsewhere' and can't have one of their saddles. This is a real pain as it's taken me a long time to find a saddle that fits.
Sorry for the whinge but I feel a bit miffed that I've paid an awful lot of money for a product that's not right only to be told I've quote 'abused' the saddle and been spoken to quite horribly. I can see this from their point of view but I know I've done absolutely nothing to damage the saddle.
Thoughts welcomed - repair or refund and start all over again? Thank you for reading this far
