About to go back to yard to see if I can get B to speak to me.... She wouldn't let me touch her AT ALL this am!! I was at the yard for about 3 hours, doing odd jobs, poo picking, waters, playing with H etc... They all had their jabs yesterday - the boys had flu/tet and B had both Flu/tet and her 3rd EHV 1,4 (pregnant mares ideally should have this vaccine in their 5th, 7th and 9th month of gestation). I couldn't get there, as was stupidly busy in meetings at work etc... and YO was happy to see to them for me (she's great!!) She was suitably forewarned about B's needle shyness and I said to do the EHV 1,4 first, as she could wait for her Flu/tet (not actually due till Aug). Well the boys were fine, infact she didn't even have to catch hold of H, he was interested in gettinghis head into the bucket that the vet just jabbed him - he didn't even flinch LOL! They had to bring B in, as she totally freaked out at the vet (male) and they only managed to get her EHV 1,4 done. The last 2 times she has been jabbed by female vets - different practice, as have moved - and although not perfect, was a LOT better than she has been in the past!! MFH_09 cab vouch for how bad she can be to jab and her reaction to some male vets.

Anyway, there is no obvious swelling on her neck, but I could not get near her earlier and she is usually such a sweet girl and friendly and interested. I caught her last night and took her headcollar off (I left all of them in hats, to make life easier for YO) and she was a bit tetchy, but I was expecting that. I couldn't even get her to come over to me for her breakfast earlier!! She is pretty food orientated - not as much as Berry, but still...

Not sure of the point of this - think I might have to find a female vet for jabs if nothing else......

No reason for you to feel horrid!

We used to have a little welsh pony who was absolutely terrified of men - however we had a fantastic male dentist to her who she developed a real affinity with! They are strange little devils, arent they!

Would the vet let you jab her, in his presence obviously? We had a horse at work that would not let a vet near him- male, female, coming in a different car etc, he knew it was a vet (the smell I guess) but he would let us jab him.

I have a mare who won't let ANY vet near her - and my vet is happy for me to jab her (with him outside the door!) He has to BE there and see it done as he has to enter it on the passport - and he can't do THAT if he hasn't seen it given - but it ight be the answer to the problem.

Thanks fo that idea Janet and IC - though I have to say, that though I am used to giving injections (have done so for years now), B has totally put me off wanting to do it to her! When she is really bad, she just looses the plot and doesn't even see you, to not run you over, flatten you etc... It's all fear based! The only reason I have given her EHV 1,4 through this pregnancy (I didn't with her previous one, due to her needle shyness), was because I knew it was highly likely that moving yards was on the cards, as I was job hunting and I didn't know where they might end up and some places insist on EHV for regular horses, nevermind pregnant ones. Anyway, I digress, I honestly do not want to jab this horse - I'm actually a little peed off and upset, as for her last jab (2 months ago) she just flinched slightly...... Major breakthrough, or so I thought!
