My health currently isnt good so this doesnt help either, but also in april my horse got very grumpy and we found out he had stomach ulcers so hes been treated with gastro gard with success and he is also on a high fibre diet. Anyway he is now ulcer free and for 4 months all we have been able to do was flat work due to me selling my jump saddle and ordered anew one which we waited 2 months for and saddler messed it up so went to another company who made me a beutiful saddle which we got 2 weekwnds ago...so while we didnt have my jump saddle all i could do was flat when my horse had ulcers he was very grumpy reluctant to canter just didnt want to work so once on the gastro it worked wonders and my horse went back to normal...so we get my new jump saddle bearing in mind we havent jumped for a few months so popped few small fences he jumped what was asked but in between he got grumpy pinned his ears back head up but when he was going to a fence ears forward and over the fence then he would go grumpy again, had a lesson last tuesday and he jumped well little bit of grumpiness in between fences, so after that lesson for rest of the week and weekend done my flat work good as gold no grumpyness, so tonight i decided to pop a few jumps again and he was grumpy again but not with the fences saw fences ears forward loved it. So is he anticipating pain after the ulcers with the jumping now? as i know when he started being treated it took me a couple of weeks or so to make him realise he wasnt in pain anymore on the flat. He is clear of ulcers now and its his last day of gasto gard tomorrow. I have got him some coligone so im hoping this will help as im wondering if hes just one of these horses who suffers with alot of acid build up.

Don't be downhearted. This is horses for you - or at least some horses for you (including one of mine who is very complicated). Often a rollercoaster ride.

Perhaps he's just finding it a bit much getting back into his normal life? Takes a while for them to regain their fitness of body AND mind.

yes its just perservrance i think...with the flat work it took me a couple of weeks of just slowly re introducing canter without him getting grumpy then he realised it wasnt going to hurt him so maybe it just going to be the same when we jump hes not refusuing the jumps or anything hes very happy going up to the fences and going over them its the in between bit so maybe hes just thinking its going to hurt and i just need to help him realise its not. Im probably worrying abit to much to as with my health problem it makes me worry and i put myself down things like that

Not sure what sort of regime he is on food wise, but a double handfull of molichaff or something similar about 1/2 hour before he works can make sure that he is comfortable IF there is a bit of pain from stomach acid after shaking it up over a jump.

ok thank you will deffo do that! His diet is ready mash,hi fi lite, and badminton high fibre , slippery elm, brewers yeast and seaweed but once i start the coligone i dont know if i can feed the slippery elm and brewers yeast with that, wil be taking off the seaweed as i know coligone has that in if im correct:confused:

Possibly just habit, rehabbing a KS horse atm, and he will occasionally display the pain signs that he had before the op, blowing and craning his neck. He then realises that it doesn't hurt anymore and he is fine :) Vet says it could take a few months for him to stop doing it, and he may always do it at the start of a lesson anticipating pain.

aw hope your horse gets better soon! it took me a couple of weeks to get his flat work back to normal without grumpyness so im hoping it will be the same for this.
