FEI descision on AT is in..

Team Tryon sponsors include:

Horseware
Mikmar
Myler
Charles Owen
Devoucoux
Adequan (now THAT's an interesting sponsor....)

Note these names and don't buy from them

I am prepared to accept the Tribunal's decision for the good of the sport.

Very generous of her. Shame she's already done so much to tarnish the reputation of the sport in the minds of so many people

Actually just looked on the horseware site, and she is not listed as being sponsored - so is your list definately correct??

Lucinda was one of my heroes as well - sad day as she really is very good - but the only way to hit these people is in their pockets - money (sadly) talks.

If AT has no sponsorshiop then it will make it harder for her to compete - THAT is the way forward.

Other sponsors listed on her website are USA sponsors - I know that some people here post in the USA as well - perhaps they could post about a sponsor-boycott to cover the USA sponsoring companies.

absolute disgrace- need to hit her where it hurts - in the wallet through her sponsors. They must be mad to still be sponsoring her after all this - going to email them all.

just started on my list - Horsewear first as I have their rugs, Charles Owen as I have one of their hats and then on down the list (devocoux last as no way could i afford one of their saddles !!)

Re her accepting the decision for the good of the sport...nothing about accepting it because she knows she did wrong then!!! Almost sounds like she is saying she will accept it but doesnt agree with it!

I've kept out of this debate until now, but I've been following it with great interest, so I read the 30 page report and this really infuriated me.
Quote from Kent Allen in the FEI report: "In my experience the injury of the nature that Le Samurai suffered at the Lexington Three-Day Event is very rare in the sport of eventing. Accordingly, event riders are simply not experienced with the situation when a horse breaks down in this manner, which is much more common in the sport of horse racing."
We had a horse break down badly in a point-to-point last year, whilst in the lead and going very strongly after only 1 circuit of the course (just over 1mile). The jockey was a 17 year old lad with less than 20 races under his belt, and NEVER had a horse break down under him. He realised immediately that something was wrong and managed to pull up in about the same space AT had between LS breaking down and the last fence.
Now someone tell me how someone with only 1 season of competition under his belt and with no experience of such injuries can tell when the horse is not right and pull up even though the horse is not even remotely tired, pulling hard and probably not feeling any pain due to adrenalin, and someone like AT with 30 years experience can't even tell the difference between a severe breakdown and a slipped boot.

I do believe that in the case of AT, the injury happened at the point LS stumbled and even if she had pulled up he probably would still have been put down, but that will never be proven either way and it doesn't excuse her for continuing when he was quite clearly not right.

Definitely agree with boycotting the sponsors and her supporters - shocking.

It also really irritates me that they completely ignored public opinion - are we all idiots who are not worthy of a voice or opinion?

Apparently so Spiral....although they may have shot themselves in the foot given that we dont know the true identities of many posters and lurkers here.

Sorry if this has been covered (I've read most but not all replies): I know very little of the ins and outs of international eventing re qualifying etc. but what would be the minimum period of time that would have any real effect on her future prospects?

I agree with FMM that the main thing is she's been found guilty and she will carry that verdict around forever, I hope this will turn out to be punishment enough because the paltry fine and short ban alone do not reflect the severity of the case.

how very very sad....... it seems there is indeed no justice, particually for the horse who literally gave his life trying to please.

how could you 'not realise'?

i hope that the backlash eventually reaches her, whether through loss of sponsership, loss of owners and therefore horses or simply though over whelming public disgust

WHat an absolute load of bollox!!!

I for one will quite happily be at the event, if she ever chooses to compete over here, and will quite happily boo her!
COmplete shambles, I hope now that Karma plays a huge part in this.
The loss of LS was a great tragedy but at least now he will not be pushed to his limits. For her to do that at a competition i would not like to see how the horses are kept at home.
For this we have to be slightly greatful that he is at least now out of pain!

I contacted Amy Tryon's sponsors and I got a reply from SmartPak Equine. It is a very civil e-mail and I understand their concerns. I still want them to drop their sponsorship with Amy Tryon and until they do, I am staying far away from their products. Sad though, they are a great company.

The E-mail:

Dear XXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for your email!

As a decision was only made by the FEI on 7/20, we are still in the midst of reviewing all of the remarks and information from the trial. Please be assured that the care and welfare of all horses is our top priority and whatever decision we make with regard to Amy Tryon and Team SmartPak will definitely take that into consideration.

We encourage you to view further details of the trial by going to the following link; http://www.horsesport.org/legal/PDFS/Tryon-TribunalDecision-20.07.07.pdf. While Amy was found guilty, the tribunal released the following information from the trial which we believe deserves consideration.

Section 4.88- The Competitor did not intend to cause harm to the Horse. The Panel believes that she is a good horseperson who made an honest error in judgment that she will regret for the rest of her life. Under these circumstances, the Competitor’s punishment should be proportional to her comparatively low level of culpability.

Section 4.87- The Tribunal received ample testimony and witness statements regarding the Competitor’s exemplary history of devotion to horse welfare, her attention to horse care and welfare and her devotion to the principle that the welfare of the horse has been and is paramount throughout her career.

Testimonies made by Karen O' Connor, Capt. Mark Phillips and the owner of the horse all supported Amy. Other top competitors such as Kim Severson have also voiced their support and even George Morris issued a statement in her favor.

Thank you for emailing us with your concerns. This is certainly a difficult situation and as such we must consider the circumstances, evidence presented and final verdict before making any final decisions.

Sincerely,

Lucy Brush
