I love donkeys. Grew up with one and, when we have space, I would like a couple of my own. So, please post photos of your donks, tell me all about them and what they get up to.

Currently glued to the live web cams on the donkey sanctuary website!

My donkeys are ridden, driven and loved. They have done show jumping with a special needs boy, Palm Sunday parades, have been driven round the village (everyone stops and stares, much more than say, a flashy car) and often escaped and gone to see my neighbours (If you have donkeys, always always be nice to your neighbours.) Unlike horses they will occasionally test the electric to make sure its working, eat the fence, worry a hole in the hedge, they are curious escape monkeys!

If they trust you they will do anything, but they are very very different from horses and you always have to make everything seem their idea. For example, if you want to catch them and you are in a hurry, the best way to do it is to turn your back on them and become very very interested in a piece of ground in front of you, their curiosity will get the better of them. Actually 'catching' them can be rather a game to them and, especially if you give off signs of being in a hurry, take a great deal longer.

Oh, they love tricks and clicker training and will do AnyThing for a Ginger Nut Biscuit! They are huge amounts of fun and as they tend to stand their ground and not run off as quickly as horses, they are great with children.

Photos, I will try and see if I can work out how!

Aww I want one now!

I used to look after some donkeys and I absolutely loved them. They are so much more intelligent than horses, and I reckon my horse is pretty bright ;) Could look into their deep eyes for hours. I would dearly love to have a couple at home, just don't really have suitable facilities for them and Millie used to think chasing them was great sport, so not really fair.

The trust is important, I sort of adopted a donkey at our last house, she was losing condition rapidly, so I mentioned her to my landlord, the vet took bloods, in the meantime, I would sneak her into the horses side of the barn for a feed at tea time, one day she came for a feed at mid day, unusal, but I gave her her feed, she was pts mid afternoon, it was almost as if she knew what was going to happen

My old donkey Clint was pts last October, I had owned him for 28 years and he has left a huge gap, he was such a character. Everything was done on his terms, but he could usually be bribed with gingernut biscuits.

my friend has 4 of them. She got 3 from market and the 4th was a bogof. They are all cheeky characters and very different from horses but the foal is the cheekiest naughtiest imaginable. She is incredibly brave and loves nothing better than to walk through the electric fence to the nicer grass.

Forgot to add the picture of my donk.

We've 2 donkeys, both live with my horse! They love each other :) bill chases them round the field about twice a day - which helps to keep the weight off them lol. They hear me in the yard and will bray until they get food :P
They were both rescued and are much, much better behaved now than what they were but still very cheeky Chappies!

Wellll, I don't have a donkey, but I have a mule called Wilson if that counts? He joined us with his bff Rodney from WHW last July. He's 3 this year so hopefully will do a bit more with him this year. He's pretty opinionated, and doesn't like it if you take his friend away, but you can do the basics with him. Tie up, groom, feet and lead, I'm hoping to do some long reining in the summer and bit him etc

In ther first week

The yard donkey - Nifty! My mare hated him when they met. I'm sure he felt sad, but he has his own girlfriend - the black pony
