A clean Chinese container is exactly what I use! Then I syringe the sample into a bottle that the vets provide to fit their diagnostic machine.

I've made a note of that technique now, I wonder what the dog thinks is going on!
I use a clean frying pan. The more hygeinic may well use other things. I follow the dog nonchalently around the garden and then whip it into position when they are past the point of no return. Then transfer to a clean jar.

Asking more for general knowledge although I imagine OP will find it hard to get a sample if her dog isn't predictable right now in its toileting
