I have a fattie. Unfortunately as he had arthritis in his hock he is retired. He can get a muzzle off in minutes and I've tried putting him on starvation with no luck so he is in
Oh dear, yes I do. Barney looks like a pig on sticks He is retired and v v fat. It only seems to take a single blade of grass and whoosh he's a fatty again. Old Mare is slim, but she's in a small paddock with precious little grass due to her cushings/lami problem. Don't want to put Barney in with her as there really isn't enough grass for just her and I'm having to feed her hay twice a day.... Blah blah
Me!! She was fat when i got her in April. She is on a very strict diet/exercise routine now! Not good when people think she's a shetland (she a little dartmoor hill filly!)
I kind of do. But, in my defense, he was a bit porky when I got him at the beginning of April.
He's lost a little bit of weight since then, but I haven't been able to do much work with him since the ground's been so hard and I can't do too much hard work on hard ground because even though his feet are really good, his joints can seize up slightly. I get to do some canter work with him more often now thought since it's been raining and we can use our fence off section of field that we use as an arena. I do have an available arena that I can pay to use, at a yard just down the track from us, but with the dry weather it's been so dusty there, last time we went in I spent the next 3 weeks getting the dust off his once white legs and out of his tail. Now they have a new foal near the arena so the distractions are crazy.
But, as I said, with this rain now coming down I get to do more hard work with him ^_^
Also, I'm still feeding him breakfast and dinner cause I'm giving him supplements in with it. But that's only the Hi-Fi Good Doer feed with a few carrots, so I've been told that shouldn't make him gain weight if I keep working him.
I do I'm afraid. No grass as field is bare, tiny amount of good doer feed, literally just enough to carry his vits and that's it. I've not been able to ride for some time due to my op and despite promises from a friend to ride him regularly for me she's only been able to ride once. I am fit enough to introduce lunging now though so hopefully can shift some till i can ride again.
The Spooky Pony is STILL a whale with feet, despite spending every daytime in Pony Jail (starvation paddock) for many weeks now. Thankfully, he's getting a friend in there tomorrow, so will be able to stay in there 24/7 for the next few weeks. That should hopefully sort him!
