It is VERY rare that I say this on here, but GET THE VET OUT IMMEDIATELY. Just from seeing the horse walk in the vid I can see you have a proper medical issue going on. Bute, cold hose, anti b's - this horse needs all three, and a proper, hands on opinion.
The horse is YOURS - YOU will have to pay any vet costs, end of! PLEASE get the horse the attention it needs - I do hope you have not just left him with no medication, out in the field, without hosing or anything?!
Sophie, I don't mean to upset you, but I have to say a few things;
1. You still own the horse, until the day where you get payment in full, and are responsible for it legally.
2. That horse needs urgent veterinary treatment...as it may well have an infection in the deeper structures of the knee.
3. The sooner you get veterinary treatment, the less chance of permanent injury to the leg, and thus the better the horse's future, either with you, or the next owner.
I rarely call the vet for lamenesses, etc - but I'd be getting them out tonight if that were mine.
Hope this doesn't offend.

no, when you buy a horse you insure it from the day you collect it and have that passport in your hand. I bought a pony and paid for it a fortnight before I collected, and no way would I have paid any vets bills before the day he was handed over. Her insurance will not cover it whilst it's still with you.
Get the vet out asap. You may find the lady offers to pay the bill anyway.

The case isn't that I wont get a vet out, technically im horse sitting as they are paying for his rent/feed/trims etc.

I am sorry but FFS you are making me cross
Horse sitting, horse owning, seeing a horse in a field in the middle of Dundee - ANY sane person would get a vet out immediately to tend to this horse - it is damn obvious that this isn't a bury your head in the sand situation.
If you consider yourself to just be 'horse sitting' for them then you are being very negligable by not consulting the 'owners' of their horses health situation.
That horse needs a vet now regardless of who owns it!
Just because someone pays for a horses trims/feed/etc doesn't make them the owner of that horse.
He is in your care therefore it is your responsibility to call a vet out.
Oh I always dig myself in holes, I didnt mean it to sound like I wont be getting the vet out, I cant type out what I mean.
I cant get a vet out NOW, theres no way of doing it now. I will be phoning the vets as soon as I get up in the morning, sorry for annoying you Weezy!
Are you not able to contact the lady who is going to buy him? I think you have enough expert opinions on here to justify calling the vet out even if you can't contact her. If he were mine I would be worried

Sophie, deposit or no deposit, I can guarantee that they won't buy Bertie (ie pay the balance) if he's lame. And if he's permanently damaged (fingers crossed it's nothing!) you won't sell him at all.
I dont drive, I have a 3 year old daughter in bed.
And where he is kept there is no electric.
I have sent her a text as it will be morning in Australia but it hasn't delivered yet.

Its not deep, its just like a bad graze if that makes any sense.
Why does it always happen to me!!!
I feel so bad! I bet if I wasn't selling him this would never of happened!

Patches didn't have a deep cut on her knee either, but the infection had settled in the tendon sheath.
She would've ended up being PTS if I hadn't taken prompt veterinary action. I am not trying to scare you, but the horse clearly needs to see a vet.
Until the deal is completed, the horse belongs to you surely, doesn't he? I don't see why you're reluctant to call the vet to an animal that needs assistance.
You are not dealing with the fact that this happened this morning, plenty of time for you to have a nice think about it and STILL act. Im not happy with the situation and if I was this woman I would seriously be doubting you right now as if its such a done deal why on earth you havent looked after her horse properly.
