Filly being bullied!

I recently bought a yearling and tried to introduce her to my two other gelding's the other day and the 'boss gelding' was done when I put her in the field with just him but as soon as the other gelding was out out, the boss was seemed to be very protective over him and was chasing and biting the filly..

I expected some rough 'putting her in her place' but it was getting out of hand and she was getting cornered and bitten until blood was drawn.

Then he boss chased her the whole lengh of the field right on her tail and she needed up jumping the gate (badly) and smashed her front legs and got stuck with the back. The metal gate was actually bent and we thought she broke her legs at first it was such a bang. I'm so unsure what to do now.. I have put both horses in the stable next to each other which seems to be fine but I'm very hesitant to put her back in.

She is 13hh and the others are 16.2 and 15 chunky cob. She is underweight so doesn't have any strength or attitude to fire back with..

Any help or suggestions will be gladly welcomed!?

Many thanks,
Rachael.

I think you rushed the introduction it should have been done gradually over a week or two with her being in with just one until they had really settled down, the second one being in an adjacent field and only being put in once you were sure they were getting along, she has no chance against two of that size and having got away with minor injuries this time I would be very reluctant to risk her again, she will probably be terrified and very unlikely to try and stand up to two mature horses so I would find somewhere else for her with a similar sized friend that she will be safe with until she has grown up and even then she may get bullied by them.

If you have no other field/ company then I would only turn her out with one, it will mean the other being in and a lot of swapping about but better safe than sorry.

agreed with you

I've just been in the same position, I've let mine out with one for now and the others in the stable, no harm will come to him being in for a bit, while i try and introduce them slowly again, i expected them to fight with each other not attack the filly, the one shes out with now has a grazing muzzle on too just to help a little!

Yes, I'm afraid you rushed things and I'm never sure putting a filly in with 2 geldings is a good idea. My cob was in a field with 2 geldings when I went to view her. They had spoiled her rotten, so that when she came here, she really didn't see why she should do as the older mares told her. We have ended up with the older mares in one fild and the youngsters in another for safety's sake.
