Well I think it is sort of good news, as good as it could have been anyway...

Basically the MRI showed that in his near fore (the lamer one) he has fractured the cartilage around the coffin joint.

In his off fore (the sounder one) he has done the ligaments supporting the coffin bone.

Then we have the lower hock joint pain that we already knew about.

We think that all of these were probably present before I bought him and have just become a problem with the more work he has been doing.

The fracture should heal on its own with box rest, so thats good news. The ligaments however will be a 6 month job of box rest with restricted walking. After that there is no reason why he cant come back to full competitive work if we do things properly.

He will have shockwave therapy on the ligaments, and both joints medicated, along with the hock.

I am feeling much more positive now, and cannot wait to see how awesome this horse will be when he isnt sore on 3 legs (since he can manage a 30 dressage with all this going on, he will be amazing once fixed!)

So thanks so much for the vibes, it is good news, just going to be a long while before he is back, but he is definitly worth the wait!!!

I am so so so pleased that it is fixable , I can remember exactly what it was like waiting for the vets to ring with Sol and everytime them coming back with her being lame on another leg !!

Even though he's off games for a while it is great it is fixable

I am so pleased for you

I've been following your posts and am so glad it's nothing career threatening, he is a cracking horse and I think he could be a little superstar.

Well im pleased you are feeling positive - im sure it must have come as a real blow to you to realise he was not quite right but you have done the right thing.

What are your plans while he is resting?

P.S can you pm me your address to i can send you back your universal - tried it again at the weekend (determined he would get used to it- but he was awful) otherwise i will forget all about it. will send back the bitt burr too .
xx

Great news it's fixable- bet you're very relieved!
Going to be a long old 6 months though- for you and him.
Will you try to find another for in the mean time?

Oh my !! He's been SO amazing with all of this stuff going on, how amazing will he be once fixed?

I'm so sorry that he's going to need so much time off, but the prognosis seems really positive, and for Sue to say that, its extremely good news.

I am sure he will fly up through the grades once fixed and that these six months will seem like nothing in the years to come. He is going to be such a superstar!

Here's to the next 6 months flying by for you and blaze!!

I am SO so pleased it is fixable - have been on tenterhooks waiting for your update.

Big sigh of relief from Scotland xx

ETS - when I saw title of post my stomach lurched as it was so similar to when J was having problems

Get well soon Blaze!

I had a horse who fractured the cartlidge around the coffin joint and damaged the ligaments also. He's now a grade B show jumper!

Hope your boy recovers as well as mine did.

Great news, so happy for you fingers crossed for a successful recovery. Cant wait to see you both back out there!

I would love to get something else to event in the mean time butit just wouldnt be practical, funds are very limited at the moment, and I think I would be better spending all my energy getting Dawn going and turn her into a superstar eventing pony, even if it means I will have to compete a pony for ages! Then when she sells I can buy a really good 4 yr old to bring on alongside Blaze and sell when I feel like it.

I am trying to be sensible!

Basically break in Dawn and get her out competing at some local stuff ready to maybe to an intro at Poplar next spring.

Have a livery just come in so that will help money wise, also will be competing her if I want to so wont be too bored, although saying that I am already getting itchy feet about Little Downham

Well that is a huge relief MH, just a shame it's now and you'll miss the rest of the season but with any luck, he'll come back next year and be totally awesome!

I know - for sue to sound positive it must be good! And he is going to be so good once fixed, it will be worth it. Cant believe how he has been considering how much was wrong with him poor horse, although it explains all the tension on the flat, as that has got worse recently when things obviously were hurting more.

Am so pleased for you that it is something fixable and wow what a super horse and how amazing will he be when this is all over
