Well for those of you who saw little-pink-piggies' post, I'm home! Spent 11 days in hospital, and don't think I've ever been through so many emotions. Now my pain is under control, the doctors agreed to let me home, although have to go to physio in the hospital every week day for a month. Walking is a real struggle, but I can transfer from wheelchair to bed etc fine now, and am feeling SO much more comfortable.

I had been hacking a really quality five year old, and although he was excited was being very well behaved. We were coming down a slight hill when all of a sudden he just went up on end, and just went completely over backwards. He landed between my legs, and I think did the damage when he pushed me onto my side and used me as a 'prop' to get back up. I have no idea what caused this, and wouldn't have done anything differently with hindsight. The fact that the ground was rock hard and icey probs didn't help!

The pain was pretty dazzling, and lying in the middle of a freezing field waiting for the ambulance wasn't pleasant. I broke my left hip twice, right hip three times, broke my pelvis in three places, snapped the top of my Femur and bruised three vertebrae. Then discovered really painful organ bruising so couldnt eat for 6 days! There was talk that I would have to have a metal cage coming out of me for six weeks, a suggestion I had found really upsetting, but by remarkable luck a leading surgeon, Mr Curwin, was around, and managed to pin it all instead in a 6 hour op.
Here is a CAT Scan of my pelvis prior to the operation:

Starting to come to terms with not being allowed to ride for 12-15 weeks. Two days before the accident I had had the most wonderful Junior Team Training, and just feel like such a promising season has slipped through my grasp. Reading people's experiences on here again makes me jealous (!) but I guess its vital this heals for the future.

So thank you for your comments, which were relayed back to me in the hospital. Going cold turkey with no internet connection made me realise how addicted to hho I am

I can't believe what you've been through! It can only get better from now on so a massively speedy recovery and you'll be eventing again in no time. xx

Glad to know you are back home and feeling reasonably OK, in the circumstances.

I have never seen a CAT scan before - it is so clear!
You will have to frame that!

JESUS!!! Am glad you are at home and obviously on the mend. Just remember to take it easy, rest and dont hurry to get better. Time IS a great healer and you have many years ahead to do what you want.

Fantastic CAT scan image. Good keepsake.

I presume you were the regionals writer?! She came to see me later that day and mentioned you. She's been very kind. Its an honour for her to have asked me to ride her horses in the first place, and she's already said that come June we can start off where we left off

Bloody Hell Tom, you will be like the bionic man.

Hope everything heals as quick as possible and you carry on healing well.

I've been thinking about you too, worries as we hadn't had an undate recently.

Christ, that is one incredible CAT scan! Wow you are brave!!

I am so gutted for you that you will miss all the Junior Team Trials etc but- not to worry both you and the horse have all the ability to do really well in Young Riders !

Do hope that everything heals up quickly and that we will see you back on the circuit in the summer!

Mr Curwen is a god isn't he?!

I love his 'no bullsh*t' aproach, when everyone is too busy trying to pussyfoot around the situation

He rescued me and plated me back together (though admittedly I had only shattered my collar bone, so I feel a bit underqualified to compare my injuries with yours!

Glad you are home though... we'll expect to see alot more of you on here for a while

I'm so glad for you that you are back at home and I really hope you do make a speedy recovery but that you also take your time and don't rush trying to get back in the saddle.

Just think, you can spend most of your days replying to every post on HHO
