Well it's been a life long dream to own my own horse after loaning for many years and finally I have bought a gorgeous 11mnth filly only a couple of weeks ago, very exciting as I am training and backing her myself (with the help of her previous owner who has backed all her horses and is very experienced). My Daisy is American Saddlebred x Section D, anyone else ridden or own this type, I haven't come across any so far? Just watching her in the field she has the most amazing floaty paces. Eeek I'm so excited, still can't believe she's mine!

Take care xxx

Hi, congratulations! I don't have a Saddler at the moment, but i did work with them when I lived in Kentucky, many years ago. They are lovely horses and most willing. I would imagine that the cross with a Welsh D will be quite fiery, but in a nice way. Good luck with your new baby. Any chance of some piccies?

Thanks! yes she is very spirited but very sweet and eager to learn! She is 3rd generation, so I ride her grandma at the moment and her mum is there also so the previous owner was very reluctant to sell her but she has her hands full with another youngster as well, but as she knows me and I'm keeping her where she is everyone wins!

Still trying to figure out how to post pics, will try and add one as Avatar.

Probably doesn't count, but my 9yr old gelding is TBXArabxSaddlebred, but only a small percentage I think. He is the most lovely character, hope your filly follows suit:)

Thanks hun, I was trying to look online to see if there were any photos of Saddler x section Ds but couldn't find any, she is quite sleek but then I thought her mum had arab in her when she is full welsh! I have always had arabs in the past so I do like a fiery mare! I've been reading up on natural horsemanship, I've been thinking of having some training with a Parelli 2* trainer as I really want to get off to the best start. The previous owner had handled her from birth and she was halter broken, being tied, groomed, feet up and led before I bought her so I'm keeping this up daily. I never thought I'd be able to back my own horse! :p

So lucky!!!! I've always wanted a saddlebred! How did you find such a neat cross?

The previous owner who is now a good friend has bred horses for many years, she also has an arab x appaloosa 5yr old who is stunning! I just started paying her for hacks out and then quickly was smitten by Daisy and after hearing she was planning to sell her I knew I had to get in there quick! So it wasn't planned and I have an 11 mnth old baby so I'm super busy but its all good!

I have one he has KWPN passport but is the offspring of two ASB imported from the US he is bay just off seventeen hands came to us as a driving horse but was not really suited to that so was rebroken at ten with dressage in mind.
Stunning looking lots of energy nervous and reactive would not be everyone up of tea, but I love him and have had lots of fun working on him.

Nice, they are very useful in any discipline I hear. I've never driven but I have been offered the chance to learn so might give it a go as another aspect of training, see how it goes.

I don't know, but intrigued so will need to google!! She's lovely, what height is she now? I have a rising 2 yr old welsh xtb filly and she's changed soo much at the blink of an eye sometimes:rolleyes:

Here is the British ASB society webpage. I believe they register partbred as well as pure breds if you want to go out and about with her. She looks really great. I don't own an ASB, but have ridden some in the USsome time ago. They tend to be very athletic and good natured. they make good ride and drive horses.

I don't have one now, but when I was still in America one of my two was an American Saddlebred. His canter was like floating on air when he was in the mind to cooperate! He went both English and Western, but we never drove him. When I visited home a few years ago I got to see him in his retirement, and he came straight over for a visit. Absolutely beautiful breed, congrats on your new horse!

Oooh just seen this post so sorry I'm a bit late replying. Congratulations on your new horse. My Wolfie is a welsh D x National Show Horse (saddlebred x arab) so he's probably quite a similar stamp to yours. I thought Wolf was pretty unique in his cross so it's good to hear there's another one out there. He's rising 3 at the moment and has gone through phases as he's grown where he throws more to the welsh or more to the saddlebred or more to the arab.

Sometimes you can really see the saddlebred:

Wolf will make about 15 hands I reckon. I'm hoping that he'll be a tough, useful type who will have a go at anything.

We need more pics of your pone :)

I have a friend with one of very similar breeding, she has lots of energy.

Saddlebreds are supposed to have very trainable temperaments and be very comfortable to ride.

There are several saddlebred shows around the country.

Beautiful photos! I can see the welsh, saddler and arab in him in each photo! My girl had her first hoof trim this morning, she was excellent! I was a bit wary as she can be very fizzy and after when she went back in her field she flew round with her tail high like look at me with light hooves!, she has such amazing floaty paces its mesmerising to watch, Im looking forwards to riding her, I definately want dressage lessons to make the most of her paces! Her mum is section a but when i first saw her i though she was part arab as she looks very sleek not at all cobby, I see alot of similarities between daisy and the arab i used to ride. feel v lucky! in the 25yrs of riding i had never come across a saddler before!

Are you backing Wolfie yourself? I have help from the previous owner who has backed all her horses, is self trained with many years behind her but I'm still unsure if I should send her away for a few weeks just to get that professional schooling, what do you think? Is the riding really the easy bit if I can lay all the foundations between now and then? I just dont want to ruin her in anyway.

Congratulations on your lovely filly. I have had a palomino saddlebred x Arab for 24 years. She will be 30 next year and has never put a foot wrong - not even trodden on my toe. Horse of a lifetime. Her paces are divine. Massive floaty trot and a really comfortable ride with instant response. Looked like a spirited stallion to ride but was so easy. She did dressage, show jumping and a bomb proof hack.

In trying to replace her I bought her great niece who is PBA and although she is fabulous I missed the saddlebred movement and temperament. Shocked really because I have always been an Arab person.

A couple of years ago I stumbled across an advert for a pure saddlebred palomino related to my old mare and couldn't resist. I have recently backed her and she has been really easy and comfortable to ride. Can't wait to bring her out under saddle. She has won a bit in hand.

You won't regret buying a saddlebred. You won't want any other breed ever again - bet you!! :)

I was just about to write a post, asking if anyone had a saddlebred and saw these posts..... I have recently joined the forum but have had Happy my 16.1 American Saddlebred chestnut mare for 3 yrs, she was imported from America at 2 yrs old and trained in saddleseat (not at all my cup of tea!) and broken to drive. When i first got her i took things very slowly, as i felt she had had a lot to deal with in her early years and was very green. She is now 7 and I'm really enjoying her, not only is she the sweetest natured mare she is absolutely beautiful. It has been a long process retraining her and occasionally she reverts back to racking and she will always be very alert but i wouldn't change her. I also have a ride and drive welsh d, who is quite a character and a very cheeky welsh A!
I'm really interested to know if they are more saddlebred owners out there?

You can't brag about her and not post pics!! We need pics please. :D

Yay I'm so pleased this thread has been resurrected! I'll post some pics when I can get on my laptop, will try shortly.

My girl is now 22 months and 14.2/3 but looks 17hh with her high head carriage! She can look intimidating to onlookers when she shoots her head up and snorts at something but im used to that now, I've taught her to lower her head which helps relax her and so her head doesn't dissapeared into the clouds!

I love how highly tuned and trainable she is, once I've taught her something she only needs the subtlest of signals to get a response. She surprised me the other day, I was letting my OH lead her in from the field and was explaining to halt I just say 'woah' and and she'll stop with you. Well my girl screeched to a halt as soon as I said 'woah' I thought she had frozen at something spooky for a mo. then realised she had actually been listening to me even though I just said 'woah' in casual conversation. that really amazed me actually.

My girls sire is 16.1 lemon and white but I've always loved chestnuts so love how she has the red and white which i love as quite unique spesh with a finer build.

Just to back track from a previous post, I havent looked into parelli I've found some good advice from IH as found that more fitting to how I already do things.

I've found her to be v brave and willing to try new experiences, she'll go and sniff a tractor and walk past any noisy machinery etc and has been v easy to sack out to things. How's everyone found there saddler to be hacking out etc? Do your saddlers enjoy jumping and do they have the patience for dressage? I'm hoping she'll be a good allrounder.

Pics coming soon x
