After my coming 6 yr old was taken out with a virus in Sept last year, and 5 or 6 blood tests later, his results are improving (as at 3 weeks ago) i was feeling so down!
He is a lethargic character anyway! Shows a lot of resistance to the leg (bucks etc)
Anyway, good news is i have been fittening him up - gentle hacking to start with (following vets advice to crack on and get him fit again) and working up over about 7 weeks to cantering him now in the menage. He has been fed Pure Feed Racing mix since about October last yr and it has made a fantastic difference to his energy levels and his working attitude.
He feels like a different horse, really strong and powerful (17.1h warmblood), actually pulling on me now which he has never done.
His natural carriage is very low, so i have changed bits to a NS elevator with lozenge, and tried it out yesterday and it works a treat, his head carriage was a lot lighter and definitely not carrying it so low! Long may it continue!
just hope he doesnt become resistant to this bit
Even had a little jump on him at the end of the session (just a cross pole a 3 or 4 times) and he felt amazing! Got himself quite excited on the approach and pinged about 4 ft in the air each time!
So glad to have him back on better form!
Hoping to have him competition fit again by beginning of April so we can crack on with his BS
Just wanted to share my good news
