Finding Sharers---why is it so hard!!??!!??

My friend is looking for a sharer (no financial contributions) or a loaner (can be moved to their yard or kept at my friends foc) for her 16'2hh colored gelding but she's finding it hard to find anyone suitable! She's in the hereford area :(

Took me 2 years to find a horse to ride! Happy to do any work just couldn't pay towards keep... finally found a cob to bring on but she's selling him soon and I don't have any money to buy him so soon I'll be horseless again :/ I'm in East Yorkshire and it seems although there are plenty of horses, there are also plenty of riders

I've more-or-less given up looking for a share - all the horses on offer near me are either youngsters needing bringing on, incredibly inflexible in terms of time/days allowed, so expensive it would actually be cheaper for me to have my own or full livery or all of the above. Sigh, my fault for working in London

I don't suppose any of you needing sharers are anywhere near north London?? :D

I am a sharer - I tried out 2 people before my 'owner' found me. The first person was an out and out NUTTER!!!! 2 horses ideal for my daughter & I, I knew to make a hasty retreat when I asked about past sharers. The woman said she wanted to scratch the last sharers eyes out because she brought the horse a new headcollar  I mean what a dreadful thing to do to a horse!!!!

The second was lovely but the horse was just too much for my daughter and was quite a distance.

Now I am in absolute heaven :D A pony that both me & my daughter can ride, 8 minutes drive door to door. I get told off by the owner for leaving her the odd £10 note in the feed bin (only polite to ignore her hehe). We are both as dippy as each other and I do a bit more with the pony than she is comfortable with doing herself - like canter & gallop :o. The pony has taught my daughter loads & I get to buy lots of horsey things. I really appreciate the experience and I know the owner appreciates the help. On top of all that I have made a life long friend.

I don't know what hours you work but if you work normal hours eg 9-5 Monday-Friday and want someone to come whilst you are at work you may find most sharers will also be at work/college/school during these hours.

It is much easier to find sharers who want to ride at weekends and in the evenings.

Just somebody to exercise them would be good---when I am at work!!!!!

This is maybe my favourite thing about sharing, now I can spend far more than I should on stuff I've had no use for before and Robinsons just happens to be at a good place for a break in driving when I go to see my parents :D

That and never having to adjust my stirrup leathers....

I'm currently looking for a share, but all I can find is horses that are extremely green and need a lot of schooling, and the owners expect you to pay for schooling their horse as they haven't got the experience to do it themselves. I'd happily bring on a horse for someone but don't want to be paying them for it. I'm equally happy to contribute towards a horse that has done a bit, but am struggling to find either

I've considered putting mine out to share. Just bit concerned about advertising our TB x he is quite difficult although can do a decent dressage test. Wouldn't want a contribution just someone who's a decent rider, I get the feeling with him we'd have to pay for a professional person to ride him.

I'm E Sussex if anyone is looking!

I'm not looking for a 'sharer' per se, but would love someone to come and ride/school/compete both my Boys all at my expense, no work expected (appreciated but not essential ;)) whilst I do the Proud Owner bit :) Failed miserably so far though

I'd love to find someone to ride my arab, a friend has ridden him a few times and he needs an experienced/confident rider, I've emailed a couple of local ads and I haven't even got a response, a no but no thanks would have been nice, again no financial contribution just maybe a bag of carrots now and again for mine to share and a couple of barrows of poo collected, if only I had the money to pay someone..............

Whereabouts are you?

I had a nightmare trying to find something to ride - I'm a competent rider but not a world beater by any means, shared a couple of horses before I went to uni (when parents were paying!!) and now can't afford to pay to share, much less afford my own!

I was riding a horse for a pregnant lady which was ideal until she told me a pack of lies and then started ignoring me. Tried several others to no avail and finally found the horse I am riding now, I ride 2/3 times a week on flexible days, pay a token contribution and help with chores as required.

The best websites I found when I was looking were equine adverts and preloved. I found putting a wanted ad on preloved was definitely worth it.

Horse shares uk and horsetoloan are also good sites!

If anyone is looking to share a horse in the North Hereford area let me know! (Contribution to costs not necessarily needed!)

Why is everyone so far away? :( Would love something I could exercise/compete (my mare can't really any more due to arthritis) and would be happy to muck in, just can't afford to pay for 2 :/

I'm on the look out for a horse to share at the moment and seem to be having exactly the same problem as most other posters. Either the horses are young/need schooling or they're tiny ponies :(

Feeling rather like I've hit a brick wall when it comes to progressing at local riding schools but not in a position to buy a horse at the moment.

I'd love to find someone who just wants an established horse exercising and I'd be more than happy to pay what seems to be the going rate, there's just nothing suitable about.
