Horses normally in for a week round firework night. This year I am hoping they will live out most of winter but I am worried about fireworks. Had some very noisy ones across the road last year. I am thinking they may need to come in that week. What does everyone else do? I dont really want the old boy galloping about.

It would depend on the proximity of the likely fireworks. Mine stay out but the nearest place likely to have fireworks is a couple of fields away. They usually have a nice view of the display over the other side of the valley.

Mine live out. Until recently there was a large, public bonfire about 1/4 mile away and they never seemed unduly concerned, a bit lively in the morning after.

I bring mine in, every year there are plenty of rockets which land in my horses field. It's a small village and folks who live here know full well that there are grazing animals close by :(:(.

We have the same issue. Our fields are across the road from a ‘park’ with an amazing viewpoint. It use to be fine as everyone only watched displays from there but sadly groups started to let huge fireworks, rockets and other terrifying fireworks off from there. :(

i was just thinking this recently - i think i would prefer mine in as she always feels really relaxed in her stable but her field she can get stressier with things around - i think look at the layout of your field for safety. my field has a big dip in at one end and if she freaked out could easily cause injury due to uneven ground. if barb wire on fields i would definitely say safer inside.

Mine will be in (as yard overnight turn out rules end in October) but he's chill about fireworks so has been in and out on previous yards. He just watches them with mild interest whether from the field or the stable!

My old horse always had to be out as he was better if he could see them. New horse is apparently used to being in but his fieldmate (also new this year) is a completely unknown quantity so I guess we are going to be doing a lot of hanging about to see what happens.

I always kept mine in at night as they seemed more relaxed inside.. I never liked the thought that they could gallop flat out if they got frightened and I know my mare would have injured herself if she was out . It depends on the temperament of each horse how it’s managed during fireworks time

Fingers crossed we are not too near any possible fireworks. But who knows, what random folk will do. We like to keep ours out. We have a 7 acre field, which is fenced pretty well. I'd rather they be out than stuck in a stable. A friend of mine had a few rockets that had bounced onto yard floor. Won't even think about what would have happened if one had gone in a stable. Hate fireworks, should be 1 organised display...

Mine will be out, in a field close by my house.
I do checks through the evening, there might be a bit of cantering if anything is particularly loud, but touch wood nothing worse so far.

I don't like the thought of them panicking in the stables and think more potential to cause themselves harm in there.
Who knows!

I keep my normal routine and bring them in when it suits me as any other night. We have goose bangers going off all winter so fireworks don’t usually worry them.

Fortunately there is no longer a village firework display but we always bring ours in a few days before 5/11 - that's if the weather is good enough for them still to be out at night. They may lose a week or so of over night turn out but I can't take the risk. Radio on very loud in the yard and lights on until about 11pm. Why do we have to go through this every year, surely people have better things to do with their money than blow it up!

I bring mine in earlier in the evening but that's only because all of our neighbours are very close and not horsey so we get a lot of firework action. I think it's about proximity and you might want to keep an extra eye on them if possible.

Same here, all out as usual. Thankfully we're a mile out of the village so relatively safe! They're all quite settled together too so I'd probably rather they can see them instead of just hear all the noise from inside.

People saying keep in what if a stray firework landed on a stable and caused a fire
My stable block is built of bricks with clay tiles on the roof, exactly the same construction as my house which is only about 10 meters away. If a firework landed on it I would expect a gentle thud certainly not to catch fire, otherwise houses would catch fire all the time when fireworks landed on them. On the other hand if a rocket landed on or near my horse I would expect him to go nuts, possibly have a fall which I've seen happen before or some other injury from galloping round in a field with a significant slope. There's no right answer everyone needs to know the area they are in and their own horse to judge what will be best plan.

Ours live out so that’s the only way for them - we have gardens backing onto the field and some do decide to let fireworks off from time to time, inevitably we find bits in the field the next day or two.

We hay them on the other side of the field and luckily they are by the house and my parents can keep an eye on them. Plying them with food definitely helps a bit and fortunately we’ve had no major dramas.

Mine stay out as usual. Having had to PTS a horse who got stressed by tree felling next door so I put him in for the night - he went broke the door down during the night and got wedged. I'll never stable a horse again if its stressed, much better out IMO. Just give loads of hay so they are amused.

Out if the weathers nice and in if not. Depends if they have come in for winter yet at night as well. My yards haven’t been near anywhere for a fireworks display so I’ve been lucky.

Ours live out now but even before they did, if the weather was OK, they stayed out. We live above a valley and can see for miles around, the horses enjoy watching the show. Our fields are surrounded by other fields, so although we do occasionally find firework debris in the fields, we judge that there isnt too much danger.

I’ve always left out and we have a big firework display at the show ground a couple miles away, but horses never seem bothered at all, I’m not too happy leaving them in as we have open barn stables, and there are bales of hay/straw nearby, so I’m really worried that a rocket would land on roof and drop through the gaps onto the bales at least when in their field they can keep clear of anything and move away from falling fireworks.I usually go up to the yard and keep a check on them till everything has settled down a few times during the evening,

Mine stay out until after bonfire night, although there isn't generally anything close by, I feel they are happier if they can see the noise isn't close by!

I used to leave out until one Dec at about 4:30 a neighbouring garden set off bangers and we had carnage. Yard were putting out and staff got knocked flying. My two were already out and came back to the yard at flat gallop through 3 sets of mains electric fence. My OH was fixing a trough and said he only escaped being run over because he was wearing a yellow high viz which the big lad swerved around.

I'm very much hoping no fireworks near current field - houses are a fair stretch away. I may remove the track by then though in case they do gallop around.
