Back to the grind now, no more bank holidays for AAAAAAGES :(

Who has got plans for this weekend?

I have a rare weekend lesson :) Looking forward to seeing whether what Darcy has learned over xmas bootcamp has stuck in his brain ;) I really had a super ride yesterday, he started to feel like a grown up horse and I was able to sit up and ride the canter forward properly for the first time. We've lost the left strike off temporarily but that happened before and it will come back.. right canter felt almost normal :p Just enormous, he has quite an engine now and it felt like we got round a 20m circle in about 4 strides!

Kira is now cantering too, which is helping because it makes me ride properly rather than like a limpet on a green horse.
Pic of her ladyship modelling her new haircut to kick the thread off :D

Crikey, the week has gone fast.....

Kira looks v smart MP :)

We did sooo much stuff with the ponies over Christmas, we actually didn't ride any of them yesterday at all. Clipped the new lad, and then went out shopping (Waterstones for books, Easons for Filofax insert, and Patisserie Valerie for coffee and cake :) )

On Sunday, F has PC triathlon (so swimming, shooting and running) with a shooting practice tonight..

There is lots of unaff SJ on Saturday, so we may go. However the little ponies need moved into their new field, and electric fence moved, so we may well stay at home, ride, and then do that.

Next Monday RC lessons start for me and Fionn (SJ one), and PC rallies start on Tuesday for F and Daisy.

Well.... I had a sj lesson this morning, does that count? Our 1st since mid October.
B cheerfully threw herself into it..... bleddy creature wanted to jump everything at warp speed, even things I wasn't aiming at, as locking onto anything - but with me struggling to apply brakes in an orderly way..... ?
So, agreed that I'll return on a weekly basis for a month....

Hacking with a friend tomorrow morning, solo hack or use arena up the lane on Sat.
Re clipping Sun morning then will muppet about doing something, then back to coal face on Monday.
Good luck to those competing and have fun :)

Another trip to the technical arena at Somerford for some XC. That's assuming my wayward horse calms down a bit and my dead lorry is resurrected.....

Our lorry has just gone to hospital to get re-fitted... Luckily I have an elderly pony box that I can take Fionn and Daisy out in.

Enjoy your XC, and your dressage tomorrow?

That sounds a bit like Fionn last Friday, he wanted to jump everything, even things I hadn't actually pointed him at.

Air quality the worst in the world, so still can’t do much. Slowly watching L get rounder... no idea how she does it on no grass ?

Hopped on bareback for a wander around last night, good as gold ? she’s really getting more confidence going out into the world.

Theres a possibility the Fire Situation will go badly south for us on Saturday, so today will be spent preparing in case I need to evacuate my two. Saturday is a dire day, and a fire is in the National Park now. Still 100km away, but they move surprisingly quickly in the right conditions. Most of the South East including the high country have compulsory evacuation orders on them. Some towns have been told they are undefendable. It’s like in a disaster movie here

Thinking of you guys all the time, Northern ?
Thanks MP, appreciate it! It somewhat helps to post about it here, there's very little anyone can do about what we are facing now. Have a plan and be prepared. I think my area will be ok, looking at the forecast winds. But it will be the next weeks that will be full of nervous watching of the ranges...

Same here Northern, it looks horrific on tv, do keep us updated x

Did something funny to my wrist the other day, couldn’t even hold a cup, possibly carpel tunnel syndrome? Strapped it up and took ibuprofen it’s massively improved so hopefully usual lesson tomorrow. No shows this weekend. Have a good weekend everyone

So sorry Northern. Just terrifying. I have a sister who lives an Alexandra and worked in Marysville which was flattened by fires a few years ago. Talking to her gave me a sense of the scale, ferocity and speed of Australian bush fires, which I just had not fathomed before. Praying you stay safe x

Northern it all sounds so scary, I am so sad to hear about the loss of all the wildlife, and the human deaths. It must be so scary. Really puts into perspective my moan about our field flooding because of a blocked ditch!

Not being up to much with Buzz, had a lesson on Tuesday at the yard with some other liveries. Not something I do often as i'm always at work when they have them normally but it was good, did a bit of jumping which went well until Buzz got distracted by another jump and fell over the one he was supposed to be jumping  he's a funny boy. He also after doing the same route twice which we then changed decided he knew where he was going and tried to turn that way, he does make me laugh!

Picking box up again tomorrow, yay! So we can go out and about again. The garage have even painted both the top and bottom ramps to match (the top has been white for ages where it got replaced earlier this year) so that was unexpected. Plus it cost much less than I had budgeted for so that is a massive plus, that never happens!! Looking forward to getting out and about again. I think I will concentrate more on lessons and arena hire than competitions this year. I'm aiming for a BE80 in May (and hoping to not get eliminated in the SJ this time....) so it gives us something to work towards :)

Hello, after ages where I have been too busy to ride at all, I now have plans!!! Can I join in?

Today (Friday) we have hired Finn's favourite indoor arena. Just for a quick lunge round, have a saddle up, ride round a bit and that's that. Just so she remembers manners when travelling etc. Mr Red is coming to this in car she thinks it is all too exciting. I opened the lorry the other day and she tried to pop herself on!

Sunday I have booked another arena that she does not like quite as much, it always feels cold and it echos. I have booked this as a 'lesson' but it is agreed that it is so I have another pair of hands as I will be alone and Finn has only been ridden 6 times so far after 3 months off.

Then on Wednesday we have an actual lesson, dressage lesson, but the trainer does know that she is not fit and promises to look after us. I hope this is the first lesson in a whole series, so will be mostly talking, walking and just a look at where we are at and some suggestions as to what to do before next time.

Before anyone thinks I am crazy, she was only off because I was busy and stressed. She has been walked out in hand all the time, 3 times a week, plus lunged lightly a few times a week for a month before starting ridden work. So she never fully lost her fitness from competing in September, and has been building up her school fitness for 6 weeks now.

I have also booked a camp in August, which is not this weekend, but it exciting nonetheless.

So sorry Northern for your situation. I was in Flagstaff some years ago when the mountain was on fire and spent a couple of days helping friends prepare to evacuate, including raking any dry matter away from their house. The smoke was choking on places, and many of her friends were worse off. Heartbreaking.

Kira looks great and I hope everyone has a wonderful time!

We have a jumping lesson (first one since Aug when I broke my wrist).
Well I say jump lesson...Theo has a tendancy to get overloaded so it's going to be a really boring flatwork lesson with a few incidental jumps to try to keep everything calm and controlled.
I only jumped Theo a few times before my break, I'm not sure how much he's done (has a past life as a show horse) and I've done very little jumping in the last 2 years so it's the blind leading the blind!

Another thinking of you Northern, my brother over in NZ Westport said he can see the smoke where they are now .

I'm hoping my new clipper blades arrive so I can de-yak the hairy polar bear and her swamp donkey friend!

Off to see Amber on Sunday and have a lesson on one of the school horses. Daisy is there as well but I won't disturb her with a visit, as she's in the barn up the track with the other broodmares apparently loving this not working lark. Little does she know :D

Normal service has been resumed.... Amber was angelic in her dressage lesson today. Hurrah! And then Amber and Deedee hacked out together which was lovely. Phew. Perhaps Somerford on Sunday won't be quite the hair raising experience I was worrying about.

That sounds lovely AP, especially the hack out together. Is other twin coping with being at the first yard on her own?

Had a lesson today with my classical coach - worked a lot on my body position in the lateral work which helped a lot and made it all a lot easier for the horse whilst being very difficult for me lol only in walk so a lot more practise needed before we can move onto the faster paces.

Tomorrow we are going for a lesson at my other dressage trainers place and I will ride him without his hoof boots to see if he is willing without them on a good sand surface then I'll be able to decide whether to go to our first show next week

Thinking of you and your countrymen Northern. I can't imagine it at all. It must be so scary. And to read about all the wildlife being lost, it's just devastating.

No plans for me this weekend, just lessons at home with both boys. Should be nice ?

After being so ill all xmas I'm starting to feel humans again. So I'm going to long rein B2 and maybe try and put a saddle on him depending on how he is.
Then if I have the energy I might plod round the block on B1.

Bronchitis really takes it out of you, but I want to get the year off to a positive start with the 2 boys.

Everyone elses plans seem much more ambitious than mine

Northern - my farrier moved over to Aus just over a year ago, I think he had a break over xmas near to where the fires are, looks really scary - stay safe.
