I put my brave boots on and entered the new boy in an unaffiliated BE80 in a couple of weeks! Excited is an understatement! :D

It's his first time eventing (but we've had a few outings together, including xc schooling) and his first event as a registered ROR. He has the most lovely jump, and really tries anything you put at him. Moves lovely, has lovely long legs and a great rhythm, quite striking to watch. He's fit and ready - really the only dodgy thing here is me! :D

My goal is to enjoy ourselves and get around everything if we can. Just looking to have a fun day out and build our partnership! He could easily jump higher with a better jockey, but thought the 80 was a great confidence giver for both of us. Plus he's still not too keen on water without a lead!

I've looked up the regulations and I have the correct back protector, but need to buy a skull cap - I'm thinking either Charles Own Pro II or if not Champion (as have had this one before) if anyone has any experience with those.

My last ODE was pony club days so I feel very out of practise! Any advice or tips? Will make sure to update after we're back! :)

Yay :)

With regards to hats, I like the HS1 and Ayr8 skull, but it does depend on your head shape.

Just be super organised, lots of lists so you don't forget anything, and allow yourself loads of time. Remember to take your hat for tagging, start fee and passport just incase when you go to the secretary's tent to get your number. Check the times for walking the showjumping course and when the trainer will be walking the xc/sj if you want to do this.

Have a blast :)

I'd agree that make sure you have a list of everything you need for you and the horse. I also find it helps to think of each stage separately on the day, so just think dressage, then when that is over, focus on SJ, etc. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but it has helped me stay calmish in the past. I'd also try not to have too many changes of tack for each stage if possible, as times can sometimes be quite tight. But mostly just try to relax and enjoy it! Good luck.

With regards to the new hat, take a look at Hope Valley. They have a really good deal on at the moment which is buy a HS1 and get a free conquest which is a really good deal.

Remember to enjoy yourself at the BE event. If you need help just ask, us eventing lot are a friendly bunch.

Lists help make sure you don't forget anything, but most places with have a stand or two so there is normally back up should something not be packed.

Passport is a must. Not only do you need it to travel but they also do spot checks at the event. If they check you and you don't have it, you can't compete.
