Have fun side saddling Breagha, I tried it a few years ago on my horse and really enjoyed it. Got to the stage of jumping a few fences but then the friends with the side saddle moved away and haven’t done it again since.

I have booked in for someone to come with a weighbridge and weigh and condition score the horses. Last time they were weighed they were 590kg and 535kg so will be interesting to see what they are now. The person coming is independent so I don’t have to listen to someone telling me that feeding some of their crappy junk feed full of starchy sugary ‘goodness’ will magically give my horses amazing coat shine and topline either ? (tongue in cheek comment - sort of).

Both girls are being given their booster jabs in the morning abiding by the 6 month rule still so we are ready to start going out asap...Just in time for the Disco to have an electric fault (again) ?

Took my mare out to school on a surface, ended up jumping, because I have no self-control.

Tiny fences as she's not jumped since August, other than a tiny cross pole once last week, so it seemed unfair to whack anything up or expect anything more!

Lovely carrot ?

A very tired looking vet appeared about 7pm to do my gang. Long day of emergencies ? And had no regumate so I guess I'm off to horspital tomorrow to get it! Good job I have no life ;)

Arena eventing at hickstead again for us! Loved it last time, he is on fire at the moment and really loving his jumping so it should be good fun (...touch wood). They have also stuck some smaller fences and a ditch in which he will like, last time the easiest thing on the course was a ninety spread so the warm up was a little nerve racking (they did have 80s but all but one were skinnies!).
Millie pops I love the saddle pad in your first post, what a pretty colour. I do like eskadron pads, they’re stylish but nice and soft so don’t rub during coat changing time.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and stays at least mostly dry

Smoke is back (cue broken record here, you must be sick of reading that!), so not much happening.
I am supposed to have my saddler come and check Ls new saddle and flocking on Saturday. It is forecast to be 41C, so hopefully early if it goes ahead (indoor school).

But... our Territory has just been placed in a State of Emergency because of the fire below. Most of our property has relocated horses as a precaution. I am confident it will not impact us this weekend, but will probably burn closer as the week progresses. If the worst happens, it will be burn through all the livery farms up the valley and displace hundreds of horses. Can't wait for this summer to be over and some decent rain :(

love the idea of side saddle, its something im desperate to have a go at, but the price of the saddles are . Hope you have fun,and will look out for the updates.

Im off to do 2 dressage tests on Saturday, and im proper looking forward to it .

Goo luck everyone out and about.

Yes the price of saddles make me cry a little lol. This is why she is letting me have a shot of her saddle to make sure Breagha takes to it as someone said they sometimes done like the balance strap. I have bad hips that I am waiting to see a orthopaedic surgeon about for possible surgery and riding can be extremely painful (I still do it cause I love it but sometimes it brings me to tears). So thought I would try the side saddle.

Thanks - I am looking forward to it. I love seeing the side saddle in shows as well all the gear just looks great.

Good luck everyone who's out and about this weekend!!

Dressage for Elf on Saturday, two unaff prelims. If all goes well then I'll register him BD and get his AF qualification done. He is feeling a bit too good at the moment so could be interesting!! Then off to watch a Richard Waygood clinic on Sunday with my instructor which I'm quite excited about:)

Had a fantabulous lesson this morning with esteemed sj trainer. Didn't jump a stick, all flat work and he hopped on B for 15 mins to find out more about my problems. I haven't seen him ride in yrs! And def not 14hh ever! After B having a minor melt down with shoulder shoving and head shaking, she accepted what was asked and produced some v nice work. Totally over ran but he wouldn't take a penny more bless him.
V tired little B just pottered off up the fields :)

TFF that sounds amazing! To be fair the jump is the horses job yours is to get them there in good order, I think lots of people forget how crucial flat work can be for jumpers
Northern, another one hoping you stay safe and doing rain dances for you.
Good luck to all competing
Breagha, I've had a little go at side saddle, loved it and would love to do more but those saddle prices

Yes the prices are scary. I think there is somewhere you can hire saddles but not sure if I can do it up here in the highlands, so once we have had a wee shot, I will look into it if she behaves and I am comfortable.

Pleas do post an update , I’m just waiting on results of some xrays as I have a bad left hip and doctor thinks it’s OA . I’ve wondered if side saddle is easier on the hips . Your so lucky to have a friend with a saddle to try , my local vet was going to lend me hers , but she’s moved to Malta ! So not sure how to go about it now . But if you find it helps I may have to do some digging!

Yes I will do an update. I am just hoping that the weather stays nice enough to try it as we are having all seasons this week. I have whats called Oesteophytes/bone spurs and CAM deformity impingement in my hip joints or so the first orthopaedic surgeon thought, so referred to the specialist that would do the surgery. So sitting on my XXW horse can be uncomfortable.

Thanks all. Currently 26C at 5:30am. Today is expected to be a bad day with the fire expected to spread significantly into populated areas. I think the whole city can’t sleep! At least the horses seem to cope fine with this heap, plenty of shady trees to stand underneath ?

No real plans, but had the saddle fitter out today which was brilliant! She took her time with us, I'd say she was with us for almost 2hrs. Ended up very torn between a 2nd hand Albion K2 and a brand new Albion XC monoflap xc saddle of some kind (not sure of model). Common sense prevailed and opted for the K2. Horse is very happy with it too! Next project: transport!!!

Which saddle fitter did you use sheep?

Mel Haire. I hadn't heard of her before but my YO knows her. I was very impressed, she was very thorough and patient. I had quite a long chat with her on the phone before she came out.
I don't think we have many good options for mobile fitters in NI, so I'm very pleased to have found someone so good! Horse liked her too!

Asha, do you know Pam Rigby - formerly of Mobberley Riding School? I have it in my head that she used to do sidesaddle, might be worth getting in touch with her to see if she still has any contacts? Her website is https://www.newbarnlivery.co.uk/

Whoop, had a fab arena eventing clinic this morning, only booked in last night.
Lots of work on skinnys and off set lines which really suited me as B tends to rock on regardless of the idiot on board, so we were able to work on control of pace a fair bit. Was v chuffed that she popped everything (even if one was a 'hurl yourself over' and we had discussions about pace early on).
To finish we did a couple of sj with filler boardd in, then a tricky coffin made up of 2 ladder gates for entry and exit on the short side of the arena (its 40 x 80) with a narrow but metre wide water tray in between, followed by a good turn to an off set sj stone wall, another off set skinny roll top covered in grass on centre, and then another off set V skinny cheese wedge (think of a slalom bending for the last 3).
A v happy TFF ??
