After his accident last week when my boy was allegedly hit by a car,( if you read my post about it you will know the details)I rode him out, for the first time, with a Dr. Cook bridle on so nothing would touch his mouth where the clips were. In addition he has been pinging around the field with his two friends so was feeling very well! His scraped hocks healed over in one day and the abrasions on his legs have also healed well.
I went out with a friend and we went on the route where he was injured, all was well , he was feeling very good about himself, going sideways a bit, thats normal for him when he is in that mood.

We went for a very short hack . On returning to the place where he crossed the road and was hurt he napped and was nearly on two legs but I managed to get him to keep all four on the ground and we got across the road safely to the other side ! He was then totally relaxed.

I was scared at the time but managed to get him under control, I know that his reaction was entirely normal , given what had happened, but I am such a wuss! am now scared that he will be like this whenever he returns home.

I just need reassurance that it won't always be like this, he is normally such a good boy and has never gone up on two legs ever before.

Thanks for reading!

i am no expert and there are probably a few people on here with better advice but why not take it slowly with him and start with 2 minute hacks out then build upslowly not visiting the sceneof accident, it would give you and him confidence.

I agree, it must have been an awlful experience for him. Just take it slowly, ride him forward positively with praise and he will soon build up the confidence again (and you for that matter) x

Lots of praise when he's calm, nothing but firm forward riding whilst he is stressing.

If he's at all foodie, is it the sort of place where someone could meet you and give him a feed? I'm firmly of the belief that situations should be made as nice as possible.

You did very well to ride out and in the same spot. Have a hug and a hot choccy

Thanks you guys for your advice,

I definitely will continue with the praise and giving him confidence thing........

Mrs.M...........

(I do hope you are recovering well from your injury!) he is a very foody boy so that is a great suggestion, he adores his grub, so maybe get my OH to meet us with some tasty treats to distract him, horsey not OH, although he is pretty much ruled by his stomach as well !

. Even if it's just a Polo, you want a good association with that particular spot to overide any scare he had there
