Nice little unaff show for our competitive debut! They did it so you paid a set fee and could enter any classes you like for that which I thought was a great idea! Obviously some classes were large with things not exactly matching the class description but such is local showing....

First up Novice class, something like 20 of us in the 40x20ish indoor = chaos! The boy was foot perfect (if a little bit too calm in his individual) and stood like a rock in the lineup flanked by young mares. A pretty SIRT pipped us into second but a super first competitive experience with him.

We then stayed on for the RC horse/pony (he might not be the type but he has been going to RC weekly!). As it was next class no time for a warm-up fence but it was only a cross and Cheerios the super dude took it all in his stride to take a win in this. He's so cute- I can't imagine he's ever come across RC horse class before- he's barely jumped away from home but he's so honest there was no doubts.

Then finally class 3 was the M+Ms which at times proved testing (very first ridden just off lead rein tots physically riding into us whilst we were in the lineup as one example....this brought us our 2nd win! Left it at that rather than staying on for the coloureds or championship as he's done more than enough for a first outing. I think Unaff showing often poses more questions than affiliated with the avoiding of out of control other horses and small rings! We may fit in another unaff outing before our first RI qualifier but Jan has been dressage month with our debut for that this Sunday- very excited as he's just such a pleasure to do! No idea what our summer aim is showing wise- playing it by ear mainly! Flat novice/restricted/amateurs, flat opens, novice workers, SFAS working pony, exercise/pleasure driving... too many options! Time will tell!

And finally- not forgetting the driving! Still awaiting carriage to be done but that's not stopping us working on obstacles and voice control...

Only just about 12.3/13hh! Well within 133cm for workers later in the year! I really wanted something a bit bigger (and had no real aims for small pony workers, I didn't measure him until I had him home!) as obviously I'm not tiny and the end aim is the driving (90% are between 138cm and 148cm as singles at FEI). He's more than coping carrying me thankfully. He'll have the power for the driving when the time comes I'm sure, it's just keeping it fun for him to keep him super forwards until then :) . Maybe he'll even get (or help produce) a pair or team one day.....
HDT still has roads and tracks and as he has only been broken to ride for about 6 months I am not going to push him to get to that strength too quickly, he looks stronger than he actually is when you present him with a hill.

What a stunning welshie, and such a lovely way of going. Sounds like an exciting summer ahead!
Good luck with the dressage this weekend - would love to see a report :D

Beautiful!

Could you perhaps get a small/child sharer to ride? If he does RC weekly and you continue with the driving side of things he might be able to do PC as well? Sounds as though you plan to keep him but would give him a very marketable extra string to his bow if ever required...

I think PC can be funny about entires? He certainly could do it but his schedule is fully booked already really now we're coming into the season! Gelded he would be the perfect second pony, even entire he would be but that leaves the 14 age limit as he's technically a large breed. That and the logistics of arranging someone else... :p I would happily geld him if the need came but at the moment he's not even top of the herd pecking order so no such issues. Carriage back at the weekend and first away show next week!
